Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The Izumos were never designed as or used as amphibious assault ships. They have a really limited disaster assistance role carrying extra personnel and trucks but they do not have any of the features we would associate with an assault ship (landing craft, well deck, vehicle cargo holds with ramps, etc.)

They were officially designed as "full-length-deck ASW helo destroyers"* - the same as the preceding Hyūga class, but considerably larger (27,000 tons full load vs 20,000 tons full load).

can anyone confirm if the F-35 requires an activation code from the US to start up everyday? Also is Israel excepting from this since their the only country to operate their own F35 variant?

Wonder weapons have always been a myth. They have never won a war for Nazi Germany, the USSR, the Russian Republic, The US, Iran or Isreal. Isreal, like the US maintains the ability to employ its uniformed personnel and their weapons to the peak of operational capabilities. Few other countries manage this for various reasons and even the US and Isreal win battles while losing the occasional war. Peace and a successful foreign policy are the only wonder weapons.

Does your brain require a start code?

Neither do F-35s in other nations' forces.

Defense Updates has put out a video about the F-35Bs in service in the Japanese navy:

For the first time, a U.S. Marine Corps F-35B stealth fighter has operated aboard Japan's largest active warship, the Izumo-class "multifunctional destroyer" Kaga.
A Marine Corps F-35B flown by a test pilot from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Two Three (VX-23) landed aboard Kaga on October 20, off the southern coast of California. The vessel currently has an integrated test team as part of the developmental testing process to certify it for F-35B operations.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, “Data that testers gather during these sea trials will be analyzed and eventually inform decisions to enhance the capabilities of the [Japan] Maritime Self-Defense Force as well as contribute to improved interoperability between Japan and the U.S.”
Tokyo took the decision to modify its two Izumo class vessels for STOVL operations back in 2018 and enhancements have been made to the bow, deck and other areas.
In this video, Defense Updates analyzes why F-35B operations from Japan’s Izumo-class is bad news for China ?

Shame that F-35B didn't decide to perform a feat similar to the "Corn Bomber" F-106. System failures aside I'd have to agree that it represents a mistake on the pilot's part to eject when the aircraft was still responding correctly to control inputs and backup instruments were working. I can't speak as to how bad the weather was, but just flying straight and level westwards until you're out of the worst of it can't ever be a bad decision in such a situation, right?

Defense Updates has just uploaded a video concerning the performance of the F-35I in the recent Israeli air-raid on Iran:

On Oct 26, Israel used more than 100 aircraft including F-35 stealth fighters to attack Iran. The jets used aerial refueling to cover a distance of more than 1,600 km or 1000 miles and struck over 20 targets in the operation named “Days of Repentance”.IAF targeted ballistic missile production facilities, sites deemed to be used for nuclear fuel manufacturing as well as several air defense systems.
Israel's jets just flew unrestricted over Iran including the capital Teheran as if they owned the sky and all aircraft returned safely, even though several S-300 batteries were present.Iran couldn't do anything though the strike was very much expected and its military was in a state of heightened alert.
While unverified, the F-35 seems to have spearheaded the attacks and has been video-graphed flying at low altitudes through the Jordanian airspace. The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II has been widely debated over since its first flight in 2006. By 2017, delays and cost overruns had pushed the F-35 program's expected acquisition costs to $406.5 billion, with a total lifetime till 2070 cost of $1.5 trillion in then-year dollars which includes operations and maintenance. The fighter has faced many criticisms like not being as maneuverable as Russian fighters such as the Su-35 and its top speed being limited to Mach 1.6 which is far slower than contemporary fighters like the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Yeah right, they used F-35s over enemy territory where there's a somewhat comprehensive radar network and risked the downing of said planes in the process :D In truth though they never violated the Iranian airspace, they flew F-15s and F-16s as usual and launched the ALBMs over Iraq like the last time.

If Iran or Russia were to claim something similar, everyone in this forum would laugh their butts off to it so please apply the same caution here and be extremely selective when it comes to sharing propaganda regardless of who does it.

Only one booster has been found and there's no telling whether it was from this last attack or the previous one. Has Russia ever destroyed a dozen military targets around Kyiv in a single night using aircraft alone? And Kyiv is <100km from the Belarussian border, Tehran is >1400km from Israel and none of the countries in between gave permission for overflight.

The F-35 is no F-117, it knows where the enemy radars are and it knows their effective range against it, as well as having EW capabilities.

Also, USMC will field five squadrons of its C models on carriers. Meaning that every other carrier may have 2 squadrons worth of f35c.
Last I had heard - and read in released USMC aircraft plans, was for only 4 squadrons of F-35C - just like they operated 4 squadrons of F/A-18s from USN carriers (2022 TacAir Transition Plan).

However, looking for something more current led me to this April 16 2024 testimony to Cingress that says otherwise: https://docs.house.gov/meetings/AS/AS25/20240416/117134/HHRG-118-AS25-Wstate-GeringB-20240416.pdf

Here is the pertinent part:
The Marine Corps Program of Record (POR) for F-35 is 420. Marine Aviation remains
fully committed to the F-35 and is continuing with the transition to an all-F35 5th Generation
TACAIR force, in line with Commandant’s Force Design guidance. The updated Force Design
TACAIR Transition Plans call for a Primary Aircraft Authorization (PAA) for 18 squadrons of 12
aircraft which supports all MEU, Unit Deployment Program, Tactical Aviation Integration (TAI),
and Combatant Command (COCOM) Global Force Management requirements at a 1:3 deployment
to dwell. This 12 aircraft squadron construct allows the Marine Corps the flexibility to tailor
deployments to theater commander requirements, while adjusting to a pacing threat.

The tactical unit of employment coupled with sortie generation rates have driven the
squadron composition to adjust to 12 jets. Commanders retain the flexibility to deploy 10-12 F-
35Bs aboard our MEUs compared to the traditional six AV-8B ACE contingent; offering the
COCOMs a 66 percent increase in TACAIR – 5th Generation aircraft – with our MEUs. F-35C
squadrons will fill both UDP (land-based) and TAI (aircraft carrier) deployments with a full
complement of 12 aircraft. The change from 10 to 12 PAA has been analyzed in depth and can be
supported without adjusting the POR of 420 aircraft.

Beginning in PB26, Marine Aviation will change its F-35B/C mix to 12x F-35B squadrons
and 6x F-35C squadrons
. This is not a change to the POR number, but rather an adjustment to the
mix between types. Instead of the previous numbers of 353 F-35Bs and 67 F-35Cs, Marine
Aviation will adjust procurement to 310 F-35Bs and 110 F-35Cs in support of Force Design. The
final two active component transitioning squadrons (VMFA-323 and VMFA-232) will transition to
the F-35C instead of the F-35B.

I can only think this part of the lamebrained "make the USMC a weak force with virtually no warfighting capability" our current incompetent Commandant is in love with.

Raising the numbers of USMC squadrons tied up in carrier commitments (the only reason the USMC is getting ANY F-35Cs) is stupid - and has to have been pushed by the USN leadership that refuses to fully equip its own carrier air wings.

Yes, each time a USMC squadron deploys aboard a CVN it is always INSTEAD OF a USN squadron that would otherwise be there, NOT in addition to!

Help--

Does anyone have this ASRP effort information or document?

I can not find any information using the key word in this twitter content lol.

Just curious and doubtful for the authenticity.

Defense Updates has a video about the first combat deployment of the F-35C:

The US military’s carrier-based F-35C fighter jets were deployed in combat for the first time during a recent operation targeting Houthi-controlled sites in Yemen. The strike, carried out between November 9 and 10, 2024, involved the Marine Corps’ VMFA-314 squadron—also known as the “Black Knights”—stationed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln supercarrier in the US Navy’s 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR).
The primary objective was to degrade Houthi capabilities, especially following a series of attacks on international commercial and military shipping by the Iran-backed militia. The Pentagon highlighted that these strikes aimed to prevent further unlawful targeting of vessels operating in these critical maritime zones.
In this video, Defense Updates analyzes how the F-35C’s combat debut demonstrates the U.S. military's battle edge ?

And Israel claims the opposite. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Media propaganda at its best.

And there's no shotdown F-35 either, that seems to be a subtle clue as to the veracity of the claims.

If the Iranians had actually shutdown an F-35 they've be boasting about it all over international media AND displaying the wreckage as a trophy publicly.

It is not clear that any IDF aircraft even entered Iranian airspace. That said, the F-35 is hardly invulnerable to detection, especially in specific bandwidths and/or angles. Detection, if it happened, hardly equals engagement capability either way. But indigenous Iranian AD systems are fairly prolific and sophisticated, employing a lot of Russian reverse engineering (and some U.S. for that matter) with a wealth of Chinese components.
