Drones and how to kill them?

Can we use a bundle laser to detect drones. With the laser beam moving up and down and in a circle of 360 degrees

and if they had a drone to bounce the laser beams back
 
So if you can get access to the feed can you also automatically geolocate? Probably that you can also get the altitude and velocity vector the same way...

For example, landscape recognition is already used for discreet penetration.
 
The SDF [syrian kurds] shot down a turkish bayraktar,unknown what weapon was used,but I`d have my doubts about the 358 claim
 
Seems like using a couple of autonomous UCARs to patrol the local skyline and sweep the area with mini gatlings and HPM/lazer close up would be ideal. For defense against drone you'd want endurance and mag capacity. Managing drone swarms sounds all cool until you have to deconflict them.

Cope Cages were always a temporary measure till you get a top-attack-capable APS.

I'm not surprised, I believed that this was always going to occur, at least as a last line of defence should jamming fail.

The parallel to ww1 is striking.. first observation, of actual trenches, no less.. Then bombing, then air-to-air. The fragility of these small drones seems to mirror the wood & doped fabric of early aircraft, stricly speaking, composites are usually fabric in a resin matrix.. Interesting times indeed.

I thought I would mention here my thought that smoke dischargers on fighting vehicles could be repurposed to fire some sort of airburst munition, combined with sensors to detect incoming drones and potentially fire automatically.

I had one far-fetched idea that a tiny rimfire machine gun could be invented that would be rendered recoilless by puncturing the back of the case and thus venting backwards, thus making it practical for small drones. I suspect that one is a stretch due to reliability and the fact that drones are now becoming large enough to carry more powerful weapons.
 
It has occurred to me, @Forest Green , that Northrop-Grumman's M-ACE anti-drone system could made even more versatile by adding a suitable laser-designator slaved to its' fire-control system so that in addition to the M230LF Bushmaster cannon the APKWS 2.75" SALH homing missile could be added.

The evolution of drones is - crudely - following WW1 fighters. First two recon aircraft looking at each other, then basic air-to-air engagements (pistols), and soon forward firing gun-packs connected to autonomous terminal maneuver.

I tend to think gun systems are going to have to make a come-back. HPM ranges still aren't disclosed and their high cost makes them a high-value target. (Rad-Hard FPV?)
