63 page PDF.

McDonnell proposed Models 109, 110 and 111 as Long-range Interceptor designs. 109 was apparently similar to the F-101 Voodoo. It appears Model 111 was submitted after the competition finished - the proposal seems to have been a lower cost, lower risk alternative to the F-108, with a lesser performing aircraft compensated for by a high performance missile. The McDonnell Model 103E nuclear-tipped air-to-air missile was part of the proposal - see post here

American Secret Projects: Fighters and Interceptors 1945 - 1978 has additional details of these designs.

Good Day all -

I spent a day last week with Gerry Balzer and scanned some 8x10 negatives which are quickly deteriorating - so that not snow or bubbles you see on the scans!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Sum total of knowledge to date is from a Vought project list:

V-391 - Long range fighter for the USAF, 1954
V-394 - Heavy long range fighter for the USAF, 1954

According to Tony Buttler no trace of either has been found in the Vought archives. We surmise they are most likely LRI-X designs, but no official submission was made to the requirement by Vought.

Personal speculation: the designs might have been conceptual descendants of the V-371 layout. This design is largely missing from the archive.

Evan, if I lived near you I'd volunteer to clean up your files. I'm sure lots of interesting items live in them!

*gentle chuckle* I'm absolute sure of that, I know some of the stuff in there. Even what I can find is interesting, I just need to scan a few things for here and elsewhere. Good thing I've got a holiday weekend coming up.
Did this ever happen? ;) :p

I send a mail to Vought Heritage Foundation , and they ask me " who is inquiring and what is the intended use?"
Hope you can persuade the Vought Heritage Foundation to let you access images of the V-391 and V-394 at some point!
