Some will choose to eject the canopy manually before initiating an ejection. If you have time, you might want to ensure you achieved safe separation b/w you and the canopy.
That was my meaning here.

See Goose infamous failed ejection in Topgun movie:

Second hand Tranch 1 Typhoons Combat-Master? What are they thinking of. Turkey would be better of getting the latest and most advanced variant of the Typhoon and ordering them from Warton Preston that would be a better situation I would think.

That is a 3+ year solution while transfer of existing T1s from the RAF could be a one year or less solution. If they focus the fleet on air defence as the current T1s are then it presents a smart acquisition that is likely significantly cheaper for airframes that still have some decent life left.

the MoD continues to say that they're going to procure the latest variant of Eurofighter.

*Some* think that they "may" pursue T1s because of the urgent stop-gap requirement. In fact, even if they induct T1 Eurofighters within a year or two, it'd still be too late, the demand's been there for a stop-gap for almost a decade.

I mean, British Eurofighters have been regularly visiting Turkey since like 2019-20 or so and TurAF personnel have been going to Britain for inspections ever since. So in conclusion, I think this option was seriously considered a couple of years ago but they'd decided that it would simply be better to commit to new but delayed and more expensive jets instead. This is just a speculation at this point so make of this what you will...

If we are speculating - another option could be to buy a few second hand Qatari Typhoons. Technically the latest variant (mk2 isn't on the market yet, right?)
Perhaps around 12, the same number as the new Qatari order in Britain.

The ongoing downsides of European co-operation....

Allegedly the announcement of the Turkey Eurofighter deal is being held back because France is getting pressure from Greece around the sale of Meteor missiles to Turkey as part of the deal....

France has a 12.4% stake in the Meteor....and they were one of the objectors to JNAAM....

Greek owned tankers continue to ship Russian oil as well...

Unbelievable...if this is true and someone in HMG and BAE aren't smacking this down very hard I'd be very surprised...

Translation from Turkish from original tweet via X/Twitter..

Dendias has gone crazy again…

Greek Defense Minister Dendias: “Today, I met with the French Ambassador Laurence Auer at the Ministry of National Defense and requested official information from him regarding the sale of METEOR missiles to Turkey by a consortium in which France is also involved.“

I expressed to the French Ambassador Greece’s strong opposition to such a possibility, which is not in line with the excellent strategic relations between the two countries.”

I don't understand. Greeks already ordered F-35. What use can have Meteors against them?
Pressuring the French now is like trying to do lemon juice with Melons.

Just the usual tedious Greek-Turkish nonsense....
What's somewhat ironic is that Turkey's own ramjet BVRAAM with cropped fins that is intended for internal weapons bay carriage, dubbed Gökhan, is slated to go under airborne testing next year.

GÖKHAN - National Ramjet Powered Air-Air Missile
View attachment 754392
The "National Ramjet Powered Air-Air Missile (GÖKHAN) Development Project" contract was signed between the Ministry of National Defense and TÜBİTAK SAGE on May 21, 2021.

With this project, it is aimed to develop a nationally developed beyond-line-of-sight ramjet-powered air-to-air missile system that will enable the neutralization of various air elements with a long-range engagement in order to establish air superiority, protect high-value aircraft and enable attack aircraft to contribute to survivability by conducting their own defense.

The Conceptual Design Phase and Preliminary Design Phase of the project have been completed, and the Ground Trials Phase activities are being carried out. During the Ground Tests and Flight Tests phases of the project, subsystem and system verification tests will be conducted, and flight and firing tests will be carried out.

With the ramjet-powered air-to-air missile to be developed in the GÖKHAN project, a strategic air-to-air missile system will be introduced to our country, and Türkiye will be among the NATO member countries capable of producing ramjet-powered air-to-air missiles.

So this doesn't change much in the grand scheme of things other than a delay of a year or two at worst. We know that, in case of a Eurofighter purchase, Turkey plans to integrate indigenous weapons anyway so this isn't even that big of a leverage.

The only thing that might even make it a leverage is maybe being able to compare the test results of this new indigenous missile with Meteor's to get an idea of it's performance vis-à-vis enemy equipment; but as I said that doesn't even mean much in the long term.

Thanks Ainen, surprised that they never went with solid fuel? Unless they could not manufacture it quickly enough.
It shares its engine with a highly secret future anti-radiation missile that is nearing its entrence into the service (yet we have no photos of it. It was leaked back in 2022 during testing but got deleted quickly after and nobody dared to share it again.)

It's rather different inside, liquid fuel iirc.

Overall this intake position points towards conformal carriage requirement. I.e. typhoon compatibility was planned long in advance.
Yep, it's development was also rushed to equip Turkey's indigenously modernized F-16 (Özgür) fleet to counter Greek Meteor and Russian R-37M threat. It's meant to be inducted by 2027 and we keep hearing that the tests are going surprisingly well.

So that answers the question snne, a common engine for both the air-air and anti radiation missile.

Unlikely to see Gokhan on Typhoon, it's far too strategic of a project and main armament of KAAN - spilling the beans and having the technicalities of it exposed during integration - no. Air to ground munitions yes.

I think so as well but I (also) believe that, if push comes to shove; Turkey could fool the mission computer that it is a Meteor instead, much like how it managed to fool F-16's mission computer that all of the so far integrated indigenous missiles and bomb kits are "actually" their American equivalents like JDAM, AMRAAM, Sidewinder, JASSM, SDB, etc...

This works for air-to-ground munitions, sure. Not so much for air-to-air missiles that rely heavily on launch aircrafts targeting/radar information, hence why Turkey's BVR missile on F-16 currently has a max range of 65km (should increase with domestic 'Ozgur' modernisation programme still in the works). Imagine having a 200km capable ramjet missile you can only utilise to the full extent of the missiles tiny seeker, not great.

I know, that was just a "what if" hypothesis. Nevertheless I don't think there will be any problems with the Meteor supply.

According to the Spanish newspaper
@larazon_es, 40 Typhoon jets, the first 20 of which will be second-hand from the UK and the other 20 of which will be newly produced, are expected to enter service with Meteor missiles between 2026 and 2030.

Here's also a nice list made by him:

Turkish MoND:

“Efforts are underway to procure 40 Eurofighter Typhoon Aircraft to meet the operational needs of our Air Force. We want to purchase 40 aircraft in different configurations. These combinations may change, there is nothing definite at the moment. We had announced that the Requirement Definition Document prepared as a result of the discussions was sent to the UK Ministry of Defense and the relevant company. We are waiting for a price offer from them. Our request is that the first aircraft to be purchased be new production. However, how this will be done will be determined by the offer that will come to us.”
