That's incorrect and for the record it's not what Social Security fraud looks like. What he was really seeing was a bunch of numbers assigned to people who have been dead since before the records were digitized. Nobody's gone back and corrected the dates on a bunch of people who've been dead for decades, because it would take time and money that was not made available for the task.

Nope. This is amply fact checked by many sources, including the Social Security OIG. Just because they are still marked alive in one database does not mean payments are being made.

Funny, wasn't the AP reported as getting money from USAID? I know a couple dozen other "news" outlets were.

A lot of these reports were misinformed BS. For example claims that “Politico” was receiving government funding and specifically USAID money was BS. Federal agencies were buying subscriptions to content, non of the money was “USAID” “funding”. After seeing someone I thought was well informed post about this I looked into it myself.

<edit> After reading the Reuters piece linked to by @Halcyon66 below, the answer appears to be 'influencers' - and Elon Musk, who seems to warrant a category of his own.

Like universities having institutional subscriptions to academic journals and industry periodicals for the use of their staff and students. How that can be construed as nefarious or extraordinary is beyond me, but I guess such are the times we live in.

Yes, they are two completely unrelated accidents that have no bearing on this accident, the Toronto crash for example appears to have resulted from the jet's right landing-gear collapsing on touchdown (I saw a short recording of it yesterday).

The airport authorities are coming under pressure over certain irregularities regarding the information they have been giving out, though. Not least over trying to claim the runway involved was fine and that there were no crosswinds.
