Merriman's Submarine Modelling Masterclass

Another Barbel-class? You seem to make a lot of those. Your favorite boat?
When Mr. Caswell bought the Small World Models submarine line, he sent us the production masters and tools for 'refurbishment' so Mike could get those kits back into production and once again available to the market. Ellie and I wound up building new and re-building original masters and from those made entirely new tooling and produced a few test shots of each. Those test shots were eventually assembled into proper models, and that's what you are talking about.

We concentrated on the 1/96 KILO and 1/96 BLUEBACK initially and got that work done and out the door before Mr. Caswell sold his interest in the submarine line to Bob Martian, and that put a halt to any further update to the SWM line of r/c model submarine kits, as Bob's sales plan did not emphasis production of hull kits.

All that to inform you of why there was so much material posted here on those two models. Yes, I've built several KILO's and BLUEBACK's from our tooling: one for a friend, two for me (I gave one to Bob in a barter deal), and yet another for a local buddy.

Fire is out, Reflash Watch is set, all compartments ventilated, Class Charlie fire report pending.

Material loss: one charging unit; one 11.1-volt Lithium-polymer battery; one pair of soiled shorts; and one expended dry retardant fire extinguisher.

Secured from Fire. Time for my hideous evening salad. Ellie missed one hell of a show.

Lesson learned: Never leave the shop while charging one of these Chinese made chemical bomblets!

Yikes!

Glad the damages weren't any worse than that, boss!

(For those wondering, do NOT get between a submariner and a fire. You will become one with the wall or deck in ways that you will not enjoy. Because there's NO SUCH THING as "just a little fire" on a sub!!!)

Bingo! There's no up-and-over on a boat -- you report the situation, break out the gear, stand your ground, and fight the casualty as you're trained to do!

Had a friend badly damage his home due to the LiPo pack doing much the same thing. Fire damage to the garage was significant but just as bad was the amount of smoke thru the rest of the house and the resulting damage from that. Glad this was all you had to deal with, even though that is no small matter!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Absolutely... I got off with a light slap to the face. Very localized and minimal damage. I'll be back up to speed by evening time. Man!.... I'm such a lucky dope! This thing could have gone so, so wrong.

Buy a lottery ticket while your luck is still good, boss!
