The Horizontec company consolidated its first manufacturing project for the first 100% Mexican aircraft, the Halcón II, which made its first official flight at the Celaya airport, Guanajuato, where the company also has its design and manufacturing plant.
The two-seater sports plane has innovative characteristics, since it is manufactured and designed based on composite wood and a Rotax 912 100 Hp engine; In addition, it was supported by Grupo SSC, a Guanajuato company specialized in the development of simulation software for its correct management, through programs such as CATIA and ANSYS.
This flight was the first of 50 that the aircraft must complete to obtain certification from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation and other aeronautical authorities. Once it has the required licenses, Horizontec will start mass production of these aircraft.
Giovanni Angelucci, president of Horizontec, announced that in February 2022 the groundbreaking ceremony for the manufacturing center of this company was held. They are currently focusing on the design, manufacturing, and future assembly of Mexican aircraft.
"The Halcón II is our first product, it will be used for recreational flights, as well as surveillance and security tasks, but its main function is pilot training, so this project represents only the first stage of what we want to do", manifested.
He recalled that Halcón II began to be designed in 2015 with the vision of achieving an excellent product, using new technologies, that is, carbon fiber or epoxy resin, lightweight materials, and new digital tools.
He said that another of the projects is to develop a five-seater plane, which would function as an aerial Uber, as an alternative to the need for fast mobility in the Bajío; They also have in mind manufacturing a tandem plane, that is, a co-pilot and co-pilot configuration, in which they would face each other, with a military and basic training function.
FIRST SERIES PRODUCTION
Horizontec has already committed 10 aircraft to the AIRE flight school in Atizapán, State of Mexico; the start of assembly is projected for September 2022 and, according to Horizontec, they would manufacture up to 20 units per year.
Gabriel Quezada, CEO of the AIRE Flight School in Atizapán, State of Mexico, said that they must replace their technologies with modern aircraft that have digital screens to begin the new training of e-pilots and for this reason, they found the Horizontec proposal.
“We have 30-year-old units and it is necessary to add more technology, which is why Horizontec's manufacturing with modern and safe aircraft focused on the training and training of our private pilots caught our attention,” he commented.
MEXICO IN AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURING
Pablo Carranza Plata, executive director of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency, stated that this Halcón II project is a historic event for aeronautics in Mexico, which positions the country in aircraft manufacturing in the world.
“Mexico has shown that it has the capacity to assemble and develop aircraft; However, time was delaying us and today shows us that the industry and local talent have the capacity to demonstrate that there is an important aerospace platform that has been developing since the year 2000 with the aeronautical industry that settled in the country. , the creation of clusters, government support, academic offer, all this has helped to build a solid base and this is the step we were waiting for”, he added.
Oscar Rodríguez, president of the Bajío Aerospace Cluster, mentioned that this sector is developing a visible action plan, since Mexico currently ranks twelfth as an exporting country in the aerospace sector and, in less than 10 years, went from tenth to sixth place as For this reason, the main exporter to the United States, he said that if the opportunities that exist to improve the regional content in the face of the USMCA are taken as a reference, as it is in aerospace supplies, import substitution, the incursion of new technologies, as well As well as the reconversion and transformation of micro, small and medium-sized companies to global sectors with greater impact and greater value, it will be possible to increase the position of Mexico as one of the main exporters worldwide in the aerospace sector.
“In the case of Guanajuato, we have identified our strengths with the high content of technological development that we do here in the entities, the mentality and the migration from manufacturing to manufacturing and finding a very particular niche of high value, we can add to the aerospace ecosystem of Mexico, because it is not only with the objective of developing an industry, we have to forge a new complementary vocation for the growth of our state in
