An ethologist at Eötvös Loránd University has tested cats in their home environments to better understand their awareness of their own size and dimensions. In his study published in iScience, Péter Pongrácz conducted experiments with cats and their owners regarding the feline's awareness of...
Anyone who has ever pet a cat or shuffled their feet across the carpet knows that rubbing objects together generates static electricity. But an explanation for this phenomenon has eluded researchers for more than two millennia.

In the Orange spectrum---the duality falls apart, leading to a chain reaction we see in the photo above.
Speaking of Furry Avatars of Doom ... and there is no image or video ...
Little 11lb, 5kg, Georgie cat gave both my old cranky but quite good midwestern farmland vet and I something of an ANGRY CAT kind of start today at his annual checkup and vaccinations.
Even with having a known 14 year history of being Very free with his usually grumpy opinions generally and triply so while at the vet, Georgie turned his head and hissed at the Dr with such intense energy the vet let go of the half done syringe and stepped back and I jumped a bit too.
Historically Georgie would howl and yowl and growl and hiss while just sitting there and letting the vet staff do whatever they needed.
Listening from outside the room you would swear the EMTs were going to show up in the next 30 seconds to haul the room full of mauled victims to the trauma surgeon.
That changed during the pandemic years when they had to take him in unaccompanied, he then kept his mouth shut but his ears reportedly turned not quite stop sign red.
Today he had both the hiss and the red ears. Junior was NOT a happy camper.
He took no action toward biting or clawing the Dr.
A thing which recalls Junior's earlier habit.
But,
With animals you just don't know.
And when the animal is feeling stressed or threatened, you really don't know.
So, be aware and be safe.
Anyway,
I took him by the scruff and the Dr finished the immunizations.
After I managed to stuff Georgie, Junior, back in his crate he sat in it hissing vigorously until we left the building.
I dunno, maybe the needle hit a nerve or something.
On way home, stopped in apartment manager's office so they could copy the new rabies certificate.
Took Junior in with me.
And he was so sweet and the manager wanted to see him; he and Grumman, 16 years old, always go hide when strangers other than the home health workers come in to my apartment.
And Georgie sat on her desk in that classic sitting cat pose and let her scratch his chin and rub his ears.
But 20 minutes earlier, he was very much a living Avatar Of Doom.
He only weighs 11 pounds and a few ounces
But
He
CAN
Draw blood if feeling so moved.
Aren't the intricate patterns on his soft furry face so cute.
Thanks to cats, naval historians have been able to learn that navigation away from the coast dates back at least 9,500 years, because the fossil cat found in Cyprus did not evolve on the island.
