Akshually, a lot of the pulp illustrators were poorly paid and couldn't afford to hire models, so often they copied photos from movie magazines. Virgil Finlay did this a lot.

Here's the actor Raymond Massey and an illustration by Finlay that's clearly copied from a photo of him - he certainly couldn't have afforded to pay him to model.

So yeah, James Cagney may well have been the model for that mad scientist.

While I adore cats in every way, shape, or form, I have to acknowledge that feral cats are a severe pest in many countries. Out of pure scientific curiosity, what this video shows is fascinating. What we call the domestic cat evolved in the hot African plains and yet they thrive in almost any environment. This video shows how they've managed to thrive on subantarctic islands, surely the least likely place for them to survive, let alone prosper.

The video's main channel also looks at other cases, such as Australia, New Zealand, and Corsica where feral domestic cats have managed to quickly establish themselves as apex predators. Moreover, they are rapidly evolving, diverging physiologically from their original stock in significant ways.

Considering how many cats there are in the world today and how widespread they are, and how well they've managed to almost every environment they've visited, they might well be the "perfect organism" described by Ash in Alien. Perhaps Jones and the xenomorph might have recognised each other's essential qualities and teamed up.

"Look, the chestbursting thing is a real downer, but if you want to really make it, start by learning how to purr, and then we can work on the slime."
