Blue Origin and New SHEPARD RLV

Congrats to Blue. Amazing feats to put on the first attempt one of the largest rocket ever seen while working with a new team.
Bezos confirms once more his own tact as a great manager. He just demonstrated Blue main argument to the market: there is now an alternative for heavy lift (he can hide the extra cost of loosing the first stage behind long term investment, taking the financial loss on Blue side).

Comparison of speed vs time of New Glenn vs current F9 ASDS vs Starship

We can see that the separation speed is roughly comparable to the Falcon 9 despite a larger S1/S2 mass ratio (5-6 vs 3.5-4), there are probably lots of margins and room for improvement,, with less margin for landing or uprated BE-4.

The deceleration implies that the start of the reentry burn had a good thrust and relatively good orientation.

Will the second-stage stay in orbit or does it have enough propellant for an escape-velocity burn?

FAA Statement on Blue Origin NG-1 Mishap [Jan 16]

The FAA is aware an anomaly occurred during the Blue Origin NG-1 mission that launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, on Jan. 16. No public injuries or public property damage have been reported. The FAA is requiring Blue Origin to perform a mishap investigation. Contact Blue Origin for additional information.

Background

A mishap investigation is designed to enhance public safety, determine the root cause of the event, and identify corrective actions to avoid it from happening again.

The FAA will be involved in every step of the Blue Origin-led mishap investigation process and must approve Blue Origin’s final report, including any corrective actions.

A return to flight is based on the FAA determining that any system, process, or procedure related to the mishap does not affect public safety.

Our Blue Ring Pathfinder hit all our mission objectives within the planned six-hour journey after being inserted into the desired orbit by New Glenn with an apogee of 19,300 km and a perigee of 2,400 km at a 30-degree inclination. GS2 and the BE-3U engines nailed insertion with a less than 1% deviation from our exact orbital injection target.
