Nice set. The models are new to me, the others I had in lower quality. Thanks.

Very, very nice pictures, thanks.

However, two of these projects (D270 and D272A/B) do not belong in this topic because they do NOT depict tilt-rotor projects! They use another Bell-developed solution (never actually tested on a live prototype), the prop-folding rotor, also known as the trailing rotor.

Found the attached will looking for something in DTIC. Did not find it anywhere else

So this machine has to switch to hover mode (lost energy, stting target) before it can launch its Mavericks?

Doesn't look very well thought through.

At the time this airframe was proposed "low and slow, hiding behind trees and ridge line was the prescribed method of survival for aircraft that operate down in the low altitude regime with the Army. Mavericks do seems silly to me when 8 more Hellfire could have done the job better for the mission. Also recall that the PR folks don't always check with the engineers when they do some of these sort of things.

you don't say! ;D
I once got back from vacation and was shown an artist's impression of an (admittedly unconventional-looking) vehicle that had been created while i was gone. It was shown flying BACKWARDS, because none of the engineers had been asked to collaborate with the artist.

Indeed. But if they'd put on an M197 and lower-fuselage stubs with quad Hellfires (total carriage of eight) and maybe Stingers firing over the top of the Hellfires, then it'd be a much better picture.

There was next to zero under fuselage clearance on the XV-15. I don't think that's an option. Even assuming the gunship already has beefier gear (being heavier when loaded, stricter drop requirements, etc), you're talking about major redesign to get that sort of clearance. Plus the taller gear is heavier, takes up more space, etc, etc

Can anyone ID this TR? its probably an early Bell design, although the pusher props confused me. Any ideas?
