Some versions of RPG can be fused to air-burst after travelling "X" number of meters.
This capability proved handy when trying to kill enemy hiding behind mud walls in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Air bursting artillery rounds (prox fused) have been around since WW2. They’re particularly effective against dug in infantry such that Gen. Patton said “The new shell with the funny fuse is devastating, I'm glad you all thought of it first. When the enemy gets it we’ll have to rethink how we do warfare”. Considering the amount of dug in infantry, while there’s a few clips of air bursting, I’m surprised that the vast majority is contact fused…. Just look at the number of shell craters.

An airbursting drone munition would be highly effective to boot.

This video does a good job of illustrating the shrapnel that comes from those little drone bombs.

at the .45mark an rpg comes out of invisibility ...questioning if this not manipulated video.
That's why I questioned if it was a RPG at all in the second and third case. It looked a little more like the trail those sensor-fused munitions make, or maybe a rocket from a drone?

A Ukrainian drone targets a BMP. No indication of what if anything happens to the BMP as the camera is on the drone. The end of the video shows a bunch of quadcopters loaded up with RPG warheads; they look seriously *over* loaded, but if this is what's shown in the video, the things are still pretty nimble and likely capable of doing substantial damage to moderately armored vehicles.

I wonder if the device is a PARM2 (DM12) as the troops being hit while walking along a well trodden trail, so these mines are set up to fire upon anyone walking the path and camouflaged to prevent detection . They’re trigger by an infrared detector in the line of sight. These devices can be set up to let so many targets pass before firing purposely to spread confusion.

The Times reported at the weekend that the M1 tanks planned for the Ukraine will be brand new off the Lima production line but will be heavily downgraded to the point where they will be pretty much M1A2s in name only. (The article last Saturday in the Irish edition did say that it would have Chobham armor, but the wording suggests it will be a much older version of it. The standard additional Depleted Uranium armor is also a no go. It also looks like the Ukrainian examples will be light on fire control and other vetronics even by the standards of the normal export version.) Not quite 'monkey models', but a bit too close to the definition for comfort. Another problem is that they are probably going to have to wait quite a few months for their first delivery spots (despite the urgent situation, they are behind Poland and Taiwan on the list, both of which incidentally are getting versions far closer to the M1A2).

Reminder to everyone that we need to keep the speculation to a minimum and try to just post news items - on this thread anyways

Latest cool video of Ruskies or Ukies getting ploinked isn't really news.

Keep it in mind.

But unsourced "documents" posted by random pro-Russian twitter accounts are news?

Well it may be "news". It's consistent with a) recently reported heavy Ukrainian losses and b) videos doing the rounds of much older Ukrainian men being forcibly conscripted. It could be fake though, I'll delete it if you feel it should be. Does the forum have a poll/survey function at all?
I think there are a lot of Johnny-come-recently news sites that aren't really that at all. We should stick to more established news outlets.

Please take any reporting on the M1 Abrams plans with a grain of salt. Just about every article I have seen so far has a lot of dubious or down right inaccurate information in it.

Speculation is that it will be GLSDB. Official announcement is sure to follow soon.

Does this include Russian, Indian, Chinese etc, mainstream outlets as well?

Two issues: first, top armor is much thinner than front armor. Armor thickness is prioritized to match perceived/guessed threats. Frontal armor is usually sufficient to defeat the main gun on that vehicle, with side armor being progressively thinner, and rear armor even thinner. Rear armor is often barely enough to stop rifle bullets (e.g. 7.62 X 51mm NATO). Top armor is usually thinner than that needed to stop rifle bullets. Belly armor is sized to match the perceived threat of mines.

Secondly, those armed drones may be fakes solely designed to mess with Russian soldiers' minds.
Hah!
Hah!
OTOH consider that 2/3 of the volume of an RPG warhead is air. The shaped-charge needs a specific stand-off distance to focus its explosion. The front cone is hollow and a similar-sized hollow penetrates well into the aft half of the warhead.

Certainly possible. Video below shows a Ukrainian quadcopter stalking around a trench system. Not flying way overhead, but right at about ground level, looking for individual soldiers. Found one, zoomed right at him and kerblooey. On one hand, using a drone to take out *one* guy might be inefficient. On the other hand, holy moly does it look creepifyin' as hell, watching a robot actually stalk a human. On the ground it's got to be worse; these drones are likely loud as frak and yet prit near impossible to shoot... and *right* around the corner.

Is anybody even trying to stay within the framework set out out by the site admins?

@kaiserd it doesn't seem so. Starting a post in an explicitly news-only topic with "It's not news but" really sums it up. I was sceptical from the start that it could work, not seeing much evidence it can so far.

There's clearly demand for the topic from a few people, but it's too toxic to handle the fallout.
