Some Automotive Fun...

Almost automotive.

Accoding to the notes on the FB thread:

RELATIVITY Special", if pedaled at 90 rpm, is designed to travel faster than the speed of light. This is proven by a description of the gear ratios on the sheets seen on the wall behind it. One revolution of the pedals sends the bike 6 times around the earth. (It is part of the art exhibition "Circle of Time" that Pat Chirapravati curated now on display at California State University, Sacramento).

One reply wonders about the need for reflectors and another points out that it's fortunate that it has a lock, because if someone stole it, you'd never capture them.

The return to the United Kingdom of one of the last steam powered lorries built.

The circumstances that led to it's production were unique. In Argentina a large coal deposit had been found and it was determined that for it to be fully viable it needed to be rail connected. However it would cost too much to both develop the coal mine and build the railroad.

It was determined however that on a short term basis, steam powered lorries could be used to haul the coal to port economically enough to allow the sale of the coal mined to raise the funds necessary to build the railroad. So in what was the last large order of steam powered lorries 100 Sentinel 'S6' lorries were built and shipped out.

A developed version of the Ukrainian Sherp N1200 is being marketed by Ontario-based Argo as its Sasquatch XTX.

Sentinel, the UK's premier maker of steam powered lorries produced their last units in 1949/50 for the Argentine mining order I wrote about in my last post. Those lorries were in fact the first they'd produced since the 1930s and as noted in the video posted earlier have some differences from the ones produced in the 1930s.

Here are examples of Sentinel's 1930s output.
