Earlier in the thread I posted the cover by Larry Elmore for the Avalon Hill game 'Princes Ryan's Star Marines' (aka 'Saving Princess Ryan'.). It turns out this was the second edition of the game, an earlier edition was published under the title 'Princes Ryan's Space Marines' by the East Wind Rain Co. The cover for that version was by William Lindsay.

Before the internet was 'Play by Mail' a form of game in which turns were sent into a central hub and the results sent back to the players via the postal system. One company that specialised in this form of gaming was Flying Buffalo Enterprises, one game they produced was the science fiction strategy game 'Starweb' the cover for the rule book was created by an artist only known as 'Anthony'.

An advert by the mysterious K-Society for a roleplaying setting using the title 'Imperial Earth'. The company launched an extensive ad-blitz and hired a stall at the 1987 GenCon but no-one showed on the day and no one has been able to find out just what lay behind the adverts if anything.

A two page spread from an unknown issue of a 'Man Adventure' magazine called 'Stag' featuring a condensed version of the novel 'Four Came Back' by Martin Caidin. Contrary to the claims on the page, the novel was never made into a movie.

The cover by Todd Pickens to the first issue of 'Space Gamer/Fantasy Gamer' a 1992 attempt to revive the magazine 'Space Gamer' which had folded towards the end of the 1980s. The revival only lasted nine issues.

If we're doing game stuff then we have to have this . . .

BattleTech_2nd_Edition_cover large.jpg

The iconic box top artwork to the BattleTech 2nd edition game, by Alan Gutierrez.
The same image was used for the 3rd edition, but as a result of the copyright problems that later beset FASA Corp., the 4th and subsequent editions used different artwork.

cheers,
Robin.

Heres one from the "So bad its good" category.
If someone had made a blaxsploitation sf movie back in the early 70s the poster for it might`ve looked like this
The-Janus-Syndrome.jpg

Interesting choice in futuristic clothing,a posing pouch and a spacesuit helmet, but not much else.
Its sort of like the opposite of Dave Bowmans problem after HAL locked him out of Discovery,he had a spacesuit but no helmet.
This was published way back in 1981,written by Steven E McDonald, who went on to write the novelisations for Event Horizon and Supernova
The cover art is by Lou Feck

That sounds like the old cliche were you add:
"Its not for me of course,I`m asking on behalf of a friend...";)
It's true, a friend of my age is getting married and needs all the help I can give him.

I'm glad that he is wearing his space helmet at least
The cartoonist seems more interested in male anatomy than in technology. He has tried to represent a very advanced equipment for breathing underwater, but NASA already demonstrated during the tests of the pressurized Mercury suits that the hermetic seal of the neck causes unconsciousness in a few minutes.
