Not from the main array. You can't beat geometry.
 
There are endfire arrays in the top "surfboard" of the Wedgetail antenna system.

Which have massively smaller apertures than the main array and resulting far smaller ranges. The result is a gap in coverage fore and aft of the aircraft.

The most comprehensive news presentation I've ever seen on an aircraft and I sure wish I knew what was being said. Cool floating graphics of the P-1 and P-8 being compared. The P-1 is my new favorite anti-submarine aircraft. Makes the P-8 look like warm milk. Anyone count the number of aircraft types in the story? Great shot of the F-18's shadow on the P-8.

Looks like the new Japanese C-2 is about 1.5 times the size of Brazil's KC390 transport. We wonder which country will export more transports????

Brazil, probably by a large margin. Size is not the end-all.
 
The C-2 would have a broader chance if it had it had tanker capability. Surely it's something they could add on and give the design higher flexibility. Hell, it's probably in the works for all we know.
 
How does the C-2 hit its STOL specs without an externally blown flap?

large T/W ratio provided by the CF-6 engine maybe ? The T/W based on wiki shows 0.4. quite considerable slightly more than B-1B and Tu-160 while basically twice the commercial jetliner.

Thanks. I'd forgotten how powerful their CF-6 variant is and how big those thrust reversers are.
 
on the subject of the P-X,
does anyone know why Kawasaki stopped development of the related YPX?

It was more or less a P-X with two engines, modified for commercial airlines.
the P-X is about the same size as the 737 and the YPX was claimed to be 15% cheaper to operate

Seeing as how the short range haul aircraft is the largest market and a ton of people are entering
I'm surprised Kawasaki doesn't continue its development especially as most of the airframe is 'proven'

Germany no longer interested in the P-1 because they think it can't get military certified in 5 years

 
More than likely a cover for the fact that the German MOD is highly unlikely to receive the funding to buy them any time soon.
 
You know, I really, really, really, like these aircraft, I'd rate both as first in their class, but I get the feeling that in 20 years people on this site will be talking about "what might have been" where they are concerned. Same goes for the Shinmeywa US-2.
