Fairchild Republic AFTI concept.

Having just skimmed through the thread, probably worth reminding people that AFTI wasn't solely aerodynamics and sensors. There was systems work going on as well, including some of the early GCAS work. I've got very vague memories that GEC Avionics did an AFTI/CAS specific OFP for the wide-angle HUD that was fitted to the F-16 AFTI/CAS, but I'd really only just joined the Airborne Displays Division at that point and wasn't being allowed to play with flight hardware yet. The new weapons delivery modes would almost certainly have required new symbology, as potentially would the GCAS work. I'm not sure if the EEGS*/Funnel Algorithm work being done in a locked room at the same time was also AFTI funded, but it would seem logical.
* Enhanced Envelope Gun Sight.
Nice! And remember, we were doing this stuff with 8 bit CPUs and 32K of RAM
