Boeing F-47 Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD)

Boeing's general track record of late has been spotty at best.

Clearly impossible since insider trading is illegal.

To be fair, most everyone here was already calling it for Boeing for days. But I’d be shocked if every single person in the administration and their friends and family did know.

Based on the current information:
  • $7B for NGAP awarded recently
  • Boeing reportedly having the most revolutionary design with the highest performance
  • Trump touting "speed" for the F-47
  • General Alvin alluding to combat radius when he remarked that the jet could go anywhere
It seems obvious that NGAP will be part of NGAD. I believe there were some questions about this recently. Hopefully F/A-XX utilizes NGAP as well, as it would be a long time before any successor to F/A-XX would be able to take advantage of variable cycle engines and the range boosts that they provide, something the navy desperately needs.

Fox News panned to the right and there was a second rendering on display couldn't get a screen grab though. Anyone get a screenshot?

F-47 because it's a 6th gen could Boeing like Northrop and the F-20 vs F-5G have in advance asked the USAF for the F-47 designation ie B-47 so it would be more impressive or something

Aviation Week says the contract includes money for a small number of preproduction aircraft and price commitments for early LRIP lots

If its really going to be called F-47, why not call it 'Thunderbolt' (An obvious homage to the WW2 P-47 Thunderbolt, which I think
was used in the Pacific campaign - and anyway the NGAD will also be used in a pacific campaign again - against the Chicoms.
If that F-47 is an upscaled bird of prey - I am just surprised how come Sukhoi notional 6-th gen fighter placeholder also seems
to be based on the 'bird-of-prey' planform. Coincidence - or not?

Boeing did work with Fairchild(Republic) on the 757 747 I think so could have been a influence

Doesn´t it look like an offspring of BirdofPrey?

In all probability, NGAD Mini is the one that prevailed against NGAD Maxi.

There was never any question that NGAD would use an adaptive engine. It is the USN that seems less interested in multi stream engines for the FA-XX.

A patch said to be related to the Boeing NGAD program had Voodoo II on it. They may keep that as the name.

Boeing won a contract March 21 to develop a next-generation combat aircraft for the U.S. Air Force that will spearhead future air wars and throw a lifeline to the company’s struggling military aviation business.

The White House announcement came after a tumultuous competition between Boeing and Lockheed Martin for the prized rights to build the aircraft that is meant to anchor the Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) family of systems.

“It will be known as the F-47, the generals picked a title,” President Donald Trump said. “It’s something the likes that no one has seen before.”

During the Oval Office announcement ceremony, Trump displayed a poster showing the first glimpse of the F-47 design, revealing a forward fuselage and sharply swept back wings but no further design features.

The Air Force wants a new aircraft with the range, speed and stealth to operate effectively over the vast Indo-Pacific region and against some of China’s most advanced weapons systems, including current and future stealth fighters and surface-to-air missile systems. The requirements dictate an aircraft with performance that defies familiar categories for combat aircraft, such as a fighter or bomber. But Boeing’s future aircraft is expected to feature supersonic speed and perhaps a lack of vertical control surfaces, along with a large structure to carry all fuel, sensors and weapons internally.

The Aviation Week article mentions that the contract includes a small number of preprodiction aircraft and price commitments for some early LRIP lots

Considering the development of the B-21 I'd wouldn't be surprised if Fighter development has changed a lot we could see more faster then before unlike the F-22 or F-35 but just as expensive or more so Boeing might be ready for LRIP.for more advanced testing
