Incredibly hard to predict and very difficult to defend against, I think any current US anti-ballistic missile system would struggle with FOBS. A hypersonic glide vehicle and FOBS is probably the ultimate in nightmares for the western defence system...
Introduction:

Sadly over years thing went not so well and my co-authors lost interest or had not time anymore.
I have decided to reworking, re-writing, re-editing this Alternate History for this Forum as a Solo...
Quick question: How many W88/Mk5 warheads can actually carry the UGM-133? In the wikipedia we have 8, but I keep finding sources showing/saying 6 warheads?

Ok, this is a scenario I've been working on for a while now, so I'd like to hear other peoples' thoughts on it. It has some plot devices though (the Soviet Union not completely falling apart, Bush restarting the Cold War, etc), but I think it's realistic enough to seem sane from a glance.
In...

The UK nuclear deterrent has become after the NHS a political commitment for both Tory and Labour PMs to show their metal. But an earlier Tory PM, Harold Macmillan had his doubts as did Sir Winston Churchill.
Macmillan got on well with the new young US President. Kennedy for his part saw the UK...

So in the same vein as others....what if Sweden turned more of it's projects into reality and which would they be?
The big one has to be a Swedish Nuclear Weapons program...
Presumably with A36 Strike Aircraft.
Would this have a ballistic missile companion?
Such Nuclear production could make...
Avro Type 732

"There were many proposed developments of the Victor and Vulcan, including two supersonic derivatives, but neither came close to being built. The Avro 732 of 1956 was to have been powered by eight de Havilland Gyron Juniors, four in pairs...
Before Polaris was put out to sea, submarines weren't their only host platform; the USN had their Long Beach and Albany cruisers "fitted for, but not with" with eight Polaris tubes. Also, the Italian Navy and their Cruisers held provisions for Polaris tubes. Still, these plans were dashed after...

After the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 the US replaced its land based medium range ballistic missiles in Europe. While the Minuteman ICBM was the main national deterrent system, the role of countering Russian missiles aimed at Western Europe was taken on by Polaris (later Poseidon) submarines...

Looks like the requirement was for a heavily protected defence orientated tank, employing ambush tactics (similar in a number of respects to the S-Tank), for use by the British Army On the Rhine (BAOR). IIRC, default NATO strategy in the event...

As said in the thread title. There were talks about combining the (equally doomed) Skybolt and Valkyrie. Except it ran into a very stupid issue: Skybolt had been build for subsonic release.
Ok then, the B-70 would fly subsonically, launch the Skybolts and get ride of the pylons. And then it...

More or less unnoticed in the mid 60s the Royal Navy was able to replace the wartime very fast Minelayer "Manxman" with a new build ship.

Abdiel served nearly to the end of the Cold War in1988. Unlike the famous UK mine countermeasures vessels...
