In the late 60s the Germans were looking
for a replacement for its ground attack
Fiat G 91s.
As an offset against costs for BAOR and
RAF Germany the UK succeeds in selling
Harriers to the Bundeswehr and getting
Dornier involved in its production and
a joint trainer which becomes the Hawk.

Hi,
As this project (for the replacement of the French Rafale and the German Eurofighter) is different of the Airbus project to replace the German Tornado and the Spanish F-18, I open a new topic :)
Well, as the time to replace Rafale and EF is not for tomorrow, this topic may last for...

The program has however been badly delayed, leading to the procurement of 5 more K130 corvettes as a stopgap (despite their designation, basically oversized FACs)...

The primary contractors on this late 1980s program were MBB, AEG and Siemens. Unfortunately it fell prey to the post-Cold War peace dividend, being cancelled in favour of what originally had been a stopgap program as far as Germany was concerned, the US led Advanced Tactical PATRIOT, later to...

Just a thought that occurred. The German Armed Forces have been massively downsized since the end of the Cold War. Assuming a
decision were taken to re-arm to meet current threats what projects would be back on the table? Or what stuff would you like to see?
Seen today on the open house of the German Ministry for Defense, the Marder 1A3 Mod is
used as the so-called "Systronic Demonstrator". Basically the same vehicle as the Marder 1A3,
it is fitted with a drive-by-wire system, usable from three stations inside, a remotely controlled
weapons turret...

Could it be Dornier's new light fighter design for India in 1984? The missiles look like the French Magic 2 used by the Indian air force.

Hello,
I heard that HDW recently presented a Type 216 submarine design with vertical launcher tubes and a greater displacement than 212/214s. Is there anyone with more details?
At present it looks unlikely if the Army will need a Challenger 2 replacement for the foreseeable
future. I got into hot water for suggesting that when and if we ever did, we should take a leaf out of the Australian or Canadian book and buy off the shelf.
What options are out there? What would...
While searching patents for French tanks, found this German tank design put forth by Wegmann. I've attached the tank image from the patent as well as the patent itself.
Did Wegmann ever build it or did it remain a patent design only?
