Since the end of the Cold War the World's Navies have all gone through lean times.
The US Navy still relies on its Cold War legacy cruisers and destroyers. The post 1990 designs have proven expensive and unreliable. Other navies have only been able to afford small numbers of new ships except for China and Japan.
Aircraft carriers outside the US have been limited to one or two vanity ships with little actual capability.
Onl the SSN has proven its value as a global reach capital ship.
