PS: Just an idea ... the only other aircraft with a similar configuration was the Aermacchi MB-341B as posed by boxcite in the Aermacchi-tread. (maybe a connection ???? )

Deino ???

What about the Swiss Piranha fighter project ???

M.A.D

Agreed! The project in the beginnig of this thread looks copied from Piranha.

And esp. in the configuration shown a complete FAKE !

I'm not sure, but it seems they speak about the rumoured Shenyang J-10, which is often described as a "huge fighter with VG-wings, powerfull radar and a haevy missile load".

This one is nothing more than a psed F-111 with some Mirage-style elements.

Anyway ... can anyone translate the text, mabe this one includes some usefull information ??

Nothing useful actually. This is an article from the monthly Chinese aviation periodical, 'Aviation World' and I am told that some of the articles are actually contributed by enthusiasts so the source material is questionable. This is apparently an initial design study by one 613 task group, formed by staff from the 601 Research Bureau for a proposed VG solution to counter the threat of the F-4B which was then active in SE Asia during the Vietnam conflict and the realisation of the paltry performance of the J-7 against the latter. Again conflicts with specifications and configurations (hopes of having an interceptor capable as well as strike capable package in an airframe even before the F-15/16 came to fruition) as well as the technical competency of the Chinese aviation industry at that the time plagued the project and nothing came out of it. The CG drawing is most likely a product from the active imagingation of the author. It mentions what came out of many design duties during this period from the 1968 till the late 70s, was the J-8. I remembers reading somewhere that the only documented VG project pursused actively was the Q-6.

Was anybody using canards in the 1960s? That looks like an amateur enthusiast's idea of a cool aircraft--but not possible given the existing technology.

The Wright Flyer had a canard. The MiG-8 and the XP-55 Ascender also had canards, and they flew in the 1940s.

The Chinese aircraft, though, I agree, is wholly inaccurate.

The very late WWII Japanese J7W Shinden had canards as well.

Hi,

Old reports about China aircraft from 1960s and 1970s said that
the F-8 (in that time used suffix F instead of J) was single engined swept
wing fighter with air intakes beside the fuselage and with R-11 engine,
the F-9 was swing wing fighter with two R-11 engines, the F-12 was
a copy of MiG-23 swing wing fighter with little different and a variant
of F-12 with swept wing,the J-12 was showed here;

http://avia.russian.ee/air/china/namc_j-12.php

For the old China F-12 fighter which developed from MiG-23,here
it is.

Yes, these are the concepts, which were set in the West as placeholders for the Q-6 and J-9 programs.

During a visit to China a couple of years ago there was a special exhibition at the PLA Museum in downtown Beijing, where I saw these. Not sure oif the J10 is a prototype or an accurately detailed mock-up, but the WZ10 is certainly the real thing.
