Unbuilt, experimental and unusual Boeing 747s

Not going with the original concept arguably cost Boeing quite a few customers in the long term, especially given how the market evolved.

747 8F freighter concept (some antenna seem to have their location change)



I wonder when in the process Boeing decided to change the size and position of the horizontal stabilizer on the 747-8. I've never seen anything about a design change, but the ACAPS documentation shows a different span and a different overhang beyond the fuselage.
 
747 Advanced Tanker/Oversized Cargo Aircraft "ATOCA"

A growth version of the -200F competing in the ATCA program against the KC-10; the flight deck would have been raised 48 inches and be provided with a new large cargo door and improved tanker boom. It seems like it was proposed to supplement the C-5 or potentially replace it if the repair program failed, truly a shame it was not adopted.

Hello,
I post here some of my illustrations that I published in Le Fana de l'Aviation a few years ago on the same topic. Sorry, I do not remember the article reference (it was in French). We chose to depict only 1 potential fighter configuration among many.

so many what if possibility here,was the 747 800X verry different from the 8i? (planning to use the zvezda 747 for this one)

Would this variant have been used to warn of incoming missile threats as well? The radar seems a tad bit large for normal "day-to-day" AWACS.
 
One thing that the article doesn't mention is that a Japan Air Lines requirement also played a major role in the creation of the SP variant (in some sources the Japanese request actually preceded the Pam Am/Iran Air request).

Perhaps more dangerous would be the Soviet reaction. They’d be in a constant state of freaking out every time one of these took to the sky, and they probably would have difficulty telling an MC-747 from an E-4 or a civilian 747. And, of course, they’d have to have their own. the AN-124 would be the logical choice for an ICBM carrier, and chances are good they’d do as good of a job with it as they did with Chernobyl, the Kursk or the Polyus.
