Tornado alternatives for NATO

If the UK is going to buy American, the F-15E better the long-range interdictor role, and could also be better adapted to fill the Tornado ADVs GIUK gap interceptor role. Of course when the F-15 was offered to the UK as an alternative to the Tornado, twin-seat fully combat variants of the F-15 did not exist, and so a UK-specific variant would have to be developed, which I don't think would save all that much money over Tornado.

The F15E replaced the UK based F111s at Lakenheath after the Cold War ended.
In an alt reality where 50 plus RAF F111K had served in a similar role from 1970 to 1990 an F15K might well have emerged in the 80s as the replacement.
In its paper about an RAF with TSR2s the RAF Historical Association notes that operating TSR2 would have meant running on Hunters and Lightnings into the 80s.with no replacements.
