From, Техника молодежи 1940/2-3,here is an idea only as I think,


An airplane with retractable flaps of an original shape, increasing lift,
was patented by the Chicago inventor M. Gleave.
The flaps extend during takeoff and landing to reduce speed, and
are retracted in flight. ("Popular Science", v. 135,
No. 5.)

Well, if two wings are good, 7 has to be better!

Built in 1919 by Herbert Johns, it was a failure. It managed to get airborne but proved nearly impossible to fly and ended up like this.
