Hürkuş Turboprop Trainer represents a significant leap forward for Turkey’s aerospace industry, thought it deserved a thread on its own instead of being lobbed inside Hurjet and Kaan threads.
The Hürkuş program traces its roots back to the early 2000s when Turkey set out to design a fully indigenous trainer aircraft. It’s named after Vecihi Hürkuş, a pioneer in Turkish aviation from the early 1900s. The first prototype flew in 2013, and since then, the platform has evolved significantly.
Initially, there were three main versions: Hürkuş-A for basic pilot training, Hürkuş-B tailored for military needs, and the Hürkuş-C, which adds light attack capabilities.
Building on that foundation, TAI introduced the Hürkuş-II. This updated version improves on performance, pilot ergonomics, and operational flexibility, addressing feedback from its early adopters. With these enhancements, TAI aims to compete with globally recognized platforms like the PC-21 and T-6 Texan II.
Hurkus II first flight conducted December 2024
