So it turns out Spain wants to only source the fuselage/the empty shell of the aircaft from TAI and customize the equipment acc. to their and their prospective customers' needs.

Personal commentary: He's a top tier journalist so If this guy's on it, then there's definitely some smoke.
Sounds like Airbus Spain's AFJT - Trainer project 2020 concept is dead in the water?

I think the Spaniards are looking at a localized, licenced version of Hürjet as an opportunity to get to the AFJT in a cheaper, faster and (for them) easier way. This is also why the deal is worth only 800 million USD for 24 aircraft.

TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu:

Hürjet Second prototype will make its first flight at the end of this month. P2 is in light attack configuration.

AJT configuration delivery will start in 202
6. We have almost reached the contract stage with 3 countries, an announcement may be made soon.

Does Turkey plan on acquiring the light attack variant, or is it being developed primarily for the export market ? I would imagine with their large inventory of UAV's they really don't need this capability.

We will see. Although the Turkish MoD stated interest in the light attack version, it is a long-term project for now. Currently, TurAF needs somewhere around 80 training models, at least 16 for Turkish Stars and more than 60 to replace the aging T-38 Talons. The Navy may get the light attack version before the Air Force.

With this initial order, Hürjet is soon set to replace the NF-5s of the Turkish Stars aerobatic team. Follow up orders of close to 80 or likely more aircraft are also expected, and the Naval Aviation branch is also seriously interested in a navalised version of Hurjet. This is surely interesting... Can our Spanish friends tell us more about the rumors?

From our Spanish friends:
The Chief of the Spanish Air Force said that they had discussed industrial participation in the new jet trainer and that Hürjet was in a good position.

One is most probably Azerbaijan (L-39), another could be Spain (F-5 and C-101), and the last maybe Pakistan (JL-8)?

I'm not sure if Pakistani JL-8 needs a replacement already though. Sure they have Jeff, but Jeff is a proper LWF. For it to replace the JL-8, they would probably need to develop a separate, dedicated AJT/LIFT variant like how the Taiwnese developed Brave Eagle AJT based on Ching Kuo.

Malaysia (Hawk) also comes into mind, but they already have FA-50 on order, so doesn't really make sense.

The other one is probably Canada, not Pakistan. By Canada, I mean the International Test Pilots School (ITPS), not the Royal Canadian Air Force. I may be completly wrong here, because I don't know if they count the ITPS as a country.

Doubt it.
The CEO has been name dropping Canada twice (and once as a subtle hint, see below) now as a probable customer, what we don't know is whether they mean Canada the country or institutes like ITPS as the customer. I don't think they would choose to buy non-American but we can't blindly reject what the officials have been saying either.

Azerbaijan has recently disclosed an order of 12 Jeff Block 3s. They also ordered M346 after the Karabagh War but deliveries did not happen for some reason.

Granted, Jeff is not a proper AJT as you've already said but it can fullfill some of the tasks of an AJT and they can make due as is.

Pakistanis have been eyeing L-15 for quite a while so they are going to go for that if they ever decide to procure a K-8 replacement.

@GTX @Maro.Kyo Read this quote below:

Mehmet Demiroğlu, General Manager of TAI:
There is a serious demand for our HÜRJET in Europe, North Africa, Central Asia and the Turkic republics. Our negotiations with them have also progressed considerably. We are even making progress with a customer from across the ocean, with whom we have been in talks for quite long.

I didn't want to reply and prolong things further but here we are...
But name-dropping a certain country, that is maybe interested is in no way equal to "we have a signed contract"!
Why are you guys being stubborn? I'm not saying they will end up procuring it as they mainly buy American, but I'm sensing some pride being hurt here since you guys are insisting on challenging the words of an official...

Turkish Aerospace (before rebranding: TAI) has really strong ties with ITPS as they had sent their pilots to them for test pilot/flight engineer training before the maiden flights of Hürjet and Kaan; so they could be the interested party as well as Canada itself.

They also visited TA a couple of times in the past, with the last one being July-2023-ish?

Calm down and my reply was not meant against or or to question that Spain, Canada or whoever is interested, but to Scott's post that "CEOs have been nailed over making wishful marketing thinking before" assuming it MUST be correct when he alone mentions a name.

As such it seems more to me "I'm sensing some pride being hurt here since you" are always taking any reply as an offence, almost an insult. Again, I'm in no way "challenging the words of an official", but for me such a comment even from an official one simply expressing that other countries have some interested means exactly just that "other countries have some interested", but nothing more!

Contracts signed with Portugese navy for logistics ships, followed by an MOU signage for Hurjet (full contracts to be signed in 6 months?) South western Europe has always gotten on really well with Turkey Politically and Militarily.

I am really loving that red-and-white livery.

Has any company made an announcement about plastic models of the Hurjet yet?
