Supersonic Super Mystère / Etendard

I forget another hybrid... a SMB-2 / SMB-4 with the F1 wing and Atar 9k50. It would be a hot rod !

Now joining the party... the Dassault SIMBAD, a SMB-4 fuselage with swept, delta and tailed-delta wings...

It looks like a French Convair XF-92A. In the SMB-2 the horizontal tail masked the engine exhaust and rear fuselage - so I cut and pasted a Mirage III rear part on it. Technically, it has a Mirage IIIC "rump" and Atar 9C. I've just seen it doesn't perfectly matches - It shouldn't be too hard to correct that.

note that on the last vignette of E.P. Jacobs "SOS météores" after the heroes foiled Olrik and a menacing foreign power machinations, "La chasse française" is seen flying above the ravaged Chateau de Troussalet. The aircraft looks like SMB-2 / Mirage III hybrids.

I find the shape to be very good balanced. I can only dream of such a plane with an ATAR 9K50, or better, a M53...

My only remark would concern the access to the cockpit, which would eventually require a special ladder to avoid stepping on the wing. But the example of the F-102 or the Mirage I (such a ladder because of the air intake) show that it would not be a problem.

For the Blake & Mortimer Comics, I remember reading it when I was young (45-50 years ago...), and, to talk about air intake, I wondered where it was.

Otherwise, I presume that you know the Dassault MD 560 project (1953, ATAR 101 G 4200 kgp + SEPR rocket, M 1.8), naval version of the early projects of the MD 550 (The future Mirage III). From the Cuny's Docavia on Les avions de combat français 1944-1960 I Chasse-Assaut (OK, probably not easy to land on the deck of an aircraft carrier...).

Didn't knew it ! and yes it looks like a real world sibling...

They look more like Avro 720 TBH, and thus rocket interceptors so no need for air intake...
 
How realistic would it have been for Dassault to mash up the wing & front fuselage of an Etendard IV with the engine & rear fuselage of a Super Mystere B.4?

So I tried my idea of mating a Super Mystere B4 rear fuselage (with Atar 9B engine) to an Etendard IV's front fuselage. Hereby called the "Etendard IV C" ("C" for "Chasse"). The result is a rather pregnant looking monstrosity. Now I understand why the Super Mystere was only marginally supersonic even in SMB4 form with the same Atar 9B as the Mirage III !

Anyway... looking at the cutaways it's pretty impressive how Dassault were able to slim down the Mirage III (bottom) compared to the Super Mystere.

I may have to retire from what ifs for a while as penance for this abortion.
