New technology, Small Modular Reactors (SMR) are what we need, green power is not paying off, needs more evolution. Need to listen to the USN, safe nuclear power for many decades now. We could sure use SMRs in California but they would have to be fueled with Marijuana, Tofu and Lemon Grass. I asked about Uranium fuel but their retort was not Myranium but Uranium, so I stated, we have to live with Tofu as the Cattlelyst, that's bull.

NuScale's VOYGR reactor has been certified by the NRC:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has certified the design for what will be the United States’ first small modular nuclear reactor.

The rule that certifies the design was published Thursday in the Federal Register. It means that companies seeking to build and operate a nuclear power plant can pick the design for a 50-megawatt, advanced light-water small modular nuclear reactor by Oregon-based NuScale Power and apply to the NRC for a license.
 

"Army Energy Depot" - a concept as old as Metuslah: 1963. Now that was a damn interesting idea, if not truly practical. Mobile nuclear reactor to split air and water 's contains into hydrogen, ammonia and methanol fuels... they even flew a Caribou transport and an UH-1 chopper with ammonia. Unfortunately with only half the energy of kerosene, performance took a big hit.
 
Government has been dragging its feet for a couple of years since they announced they were moving forward with the concept (itself about 5 years after the company proposed the design). Its taken them a year and a half just to set up the body that will run the competition never mind start the competition!

Despite saying they backed it the government have done nothing to support Rolls Royce even going out of their way to solicit international competitor designs while not similarly promoting RR's work.
 
Nano Reactors that signed with Rwanda are pushing shipping container microreactors of 1-20MW. They are a 2021 startup with 6 staff (and their sole physicist is a guy who worked for Rolls Royce designing their nuclear-chemical manufacturing plants if you don't count an orthopaedic surgeon with some background in nuclear medicine) and about $4.4m startup capital. It has some contracts with Idaho National Laboratory to produce nuclear fuel for them and the Department of Energy to sell them experimental fuels. Incidentally one of their company directors (which they dont list on their website) is Lassina Zerbo Chairman of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board... you might find that connection coincidental.

Burkinabe L. Zerbo is a geophycist by training and was with CTBTO for many years, ending with two terms as DG. He is not a nuclear phycisit nor a NP expert.
 
Spending £78m on R&D with no revenue is a loss yes, article says they have expanded R&D spend to £115m this year. Still good news it was shortlisted for supplying SMR's to supplement the renewal of the Czech's four primary existing nuclear reactors in September, I dont think that news was publicised in Britain.

Not really, it was published like "We Won!", However the key issue is the delay in local development (purchase), which won't be good when advertise abroad
 
On Monday, Google announced a landmark agreement with nuclear startup Kairos Power to purchase energy produced by seven yet-to-be-built small modular nuclear reactors. The companies claim the deal aims to add upwards of 500 megawatts "of new 24/7 carbon-free power to US electricity grids" — that is, over a decade from now when Kairos promises the reactors will be built.



In the announcement, Google and Kairos claim that the first of the modular nuclear power terminals will be up and running by 2030, with all modules completed by 2035.
