Here is a Boeing design from the recent series of Runway Independent Aircraft efforts conducted by NASA

While sorting out my computer at work for an upcoming transition, I cam across some NASA briefings on runway independence civil airliners work done earlier in the century. Below are some of the pictures of a Boeing civil tilt rotor concept. From the briefing, Boeing was working for a VTOL 737 concept that came as close as possible to the same cost per seat/mile.

3°) Sikorsky's RIA concept = Reverse Velocity Rotor (one image)

... plus the basic specs for all three. They were proposed in 2002.
