Marines testing out the slimmer/quieter electric dog. Seems like basic load carrying could be implemented right now if they really wanted to deploy it. Other tasks depends more on AI but I am guessing they don't want to buy a single purpose piece of hardware.

That is if a Gecko deployed rotor blades to generate downforce. A smart Gecko would flip the blades 180 degrees and fly up the wall.

The amount of power used to generate downforce is probably a lot less than needed for vertical flight. Plus, downforce requires no fine control, just very general direction.

Still a lot more than just having sticky feet. Nature has come up with some pretty complex mechanisms but I don't think any creature ever had their digestive track terminate on their back to provide down force.

Nature didn't invent wheels either. Sometimes we can do better.

Always the girl with the biggest..........hard drive wins. But that said beauty in the human face is more often than not a product of symmetry of the facial features in addition, in women, to hip/waist ratios so with facial recognition already here measuring symmetry and other ratios would not seem to difficult.

Overlooked this somehow:

Well they could have re-staged the finale' from "Close Encounters" with a giant drone mothership and all the little ships making star constellation figures around it.

Personally I would rather watch drones engaged in a laser dogfight set to the Star Wars theme.

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2015-11/27/roborace-autonomous-cars-formula-e

The first global autonomous car racing championship will start in 2016, the creators of Formula E have announced.

Known as RoboRace, the series will see completely autonomous electric cars compete in one-hour races designed to test artificial intelligence.

Races, which will take place on the same day and circuits as the Formula E championship, will have 10 teams and 20 cars competing.
