Shenyang / Chengdu 6th Gen Demonstrators?

Why there's common expectations that Chinese 6G fighter should emerge anytime 'soon' apart from 'wish'? Where's engine for 6G aircraft, have I missed something?

You haven't missed anything per se, in the same way that no one missed anything in late 2010 before J-20 emerged. It's just par for the course.

Best to just wait and see. All we can say is the noises of the grapevine are resonating in a similar way to 14 years ago.

Indeed ... and then just almost out of the blue (or better grey) it was seen for the first time even if most said it won't happen!

Don't expect too much, everyone. Before discussing China's sixth-generation aircraft, we might as well discuss a little about the special features of the sixth-generation aircraft compared with the fifth-generation aircraft. Therefore, in what way can the sixth-generation aircraft form a generational advantage over the fifth-generation aircraft?

That's no different to the discussions that have been going on for years wrt NGAD/PCA, as well as GCAP, FCAS etc.

What we're awaiting now is basically just to see when this J-XD is going to actually emerge, and then afterwards will be the long journey to gradually parse out its characteristics to try to make sense of what requirements and priorities it has (in context of the same system of systems CCA/UCAV developments that the PLA is doing)

At the moment no one knows the answer, but what is seemingly the case is we should watch this space over the next month or so.

We at that part of the cold war where it's also a PR arms race. The Americans haven't caught on. Future administrations will be under pressure to not reveal "we beat them to it" equipments/platforms/technology.

As long as you give enough margin in the design for different airflow needs, you can use an older engine to get your aerodynamics demonstrator flying, and even make some 5.5gen models with 6gen stats in general and just lacking proper engines. See the KF21 for a 5th gen example of that.

Broadband LO, long range, and use of CCAs seem to be the 3 major points. We can reasonably add adaptive flow engines, though that may just be to enable supercruise with long range.

Other than perhaps broadband LO (which isn't used on fighters now, and frankly is up to debate if it's really a generational feature - it comes with permanent tradeoff), those aren't generational.

Like, nothing prevents gripen E from controlling CCAs.

Are adaptive engines generational? Like, if they enable something that couldn't be designed without them - yes.
Otherwise, such an engine can be added to a previous generation airframe.

Looks real to me. But Id keep in mind from J-20 / J-35 development that the PLA is willing to build out prototypes closeish to final design very early on and test/tweak them as they go. J-20 even now isnt completely finalized to the requirements they initially sought out, J-20A will be that. Not to mention its gonna be a while before they have the ACE engines they want as well.

Remember that we are on the cusp of an EMD contract for full scale development. ATF flyoff with YF-22 and YF-23 was BEFORE EMD. In the end its gonna be close as to whose will enter service first, but ours will be complete/finalized when it does, theirs very likely wont be.

Literally no 5th gen was finished the way intended.
For f-35 it's block 4, for su-57 - su-57m...
F-22 pretty much was, and so was the F-35, Blk 4 are upgrades the USAF sees necessary for the 2030s. But compared to the modifications Chinese planes seem to make its extremely modest. J-20 and J-35 underwent changes to the airframe structure multiple times from first flight and both will go through 3 different interim engines before ending where they need it.

Looks like somewhat photoshoped , but if true , then chinese are churning out gen5 designs like rest of the world combined

Its somewhat unusual in regards to CG undercarriage and wing area ,but with no vertical tail you would expect it more forward for stability .

Chinese on both sides , just depends on which side does it faster.
