PistonJet II: the poor man's jet from Volgograd!

According to its inventor, the PistonJet II "was conceived as a sport for people who want to fly a jet aircraft, but do not have the finances". It uses Chevrolet LS6 drive fans (ducted fans) and is being built in Volgograd. It would seem the first PistonJet was already flown at Oshkosh.

The main point of the PistonJet II is its impeller propulsion, I think,
which gives it a real jet-like appearance. Are there any other benefits
of this system, others than those interesting for many RC-modelers, too ?

Aerodynamically there is no benefit.

All what this type of configuration does is warm up the little birds, as my thermodynamics professor used to say. Lots of air flowing against lots of surface, very inefficient.

The link I gave two posts above yours was discussing the fantrainer with some unique photos.

But this is a real military trainer aircraft powered by a turboshaft, we are not talking poor man's jet here anymore.

Piston Jet I has been discussed frequently over on the www.homebuiltairplanes.com forum.

Also look up the Archon ultra-light pseudo jet from Greece.

Both designers intend to sell them as kits for amateur sport fliers to assemble at home.
