North American XA2J-1 "Super Savage "

And being that it was intended to be carrier based, it had the need to be folded up. Here is the model in the folded configuration.

I noticed in the pic below that the XA2J was fitted with odd props!

The port engine has cuffed prop blades and the starboard uncuffed. I fist noticed this in the Ginther book a while back and thought it may have just been an expedient for ground testing, but it did fly in this configuration (See the second pic).

I assume that this was some kind of propeller evaluation or testing, but have never seen any info (other than several pics) on what it may have been about.

Would anyone have any more info regarding the reasons for the differing props?

Wouldn't that be simply to determine the drag benefits of the cuffed configuration (by comparing port to starboard drag difference or drift)?
 
That development model is really beautiful, wonder where it all went wrong between there and the finished product.
