Some interesting news; it appears that Severnoye were still working on a separate design for the Lider program (more than likely continuing development of their original design). Today though, according to the news agency Interfax they announced that they were suspending work on it along with work on the Project 22350M frigate due to 'to the lack of a decision of the Russian Ministry of Defense'.

Quite a few commentators are still under the impression that Severnoye Design Bureau were the current design lead on the program. While in the longer term the lack of an alternative design for Lider/Shkval may come back to haunt the Russian Navy, the more immediate impact on the navy as the article points out is the shelving of work on Project 22350M.

An old thread on the Shkval, prior to it becoming Project 23560E and its subsequent assimilation of the Lider program. From the outset it was referred to as a DMZ, or "remote sea zone" i.e. deep sea, combatant.

BTW Drive is cute as usual. Neither 23560 nor 22350M were "abandoned", they just haven't received green light for later stages of dev. Mostly has to do with funds relocation timing (they haven't got in GPV27 properly). As for 22350M - work is quite active, was confirmed recently by bureau. 23560 is still in limbo it was all this time but not closed.

BTW I'm kinda lost in update but.. were you happen to know the current progress of the Saturn's marine gas turbine program ? Were they managed to fully reconstitute the production or even improve upon the Ukrainian gas turbine ?

Apparently they are either ready or in very late stages of development. Saw info about preserial examples being made in 2018 (for both Golovko and Isakov), and since this year proper serial should start, but no details sadly. Same as no details on any specific difference from older foreigh turbines. Will look further, maybe will find something else on this topic.

Well, to say for sure: Ukrainian gearbox.
Russian is still on trial.
The third building of Project 22350 was launched without a power unit.

Seeing as the the two latest Gorshkov class vessels, number 7 and 8, were formally laid down 6 days ago, there has to be an assumption that the indigenous turbines and gearboxes are now in serial production.
