Hi! Nakajima Ki-117.
Engine:HA44, 2,530hp in take off.
Max speed:670km/h(5,820m).
Design of Ki-117 was finished 80% when the end of the war.
It was perhaps P-51 contender.

Looks like the Ki-117 is a development of the Ki-84. Am I right?
You are absolutely right!
Ki-117 was a Ki-84 base middle altitude air superiority fighter, extended Ki-84's wing 50cm at each tip. Propeller diameter was 3.6m.
Empty weight increased 868kg, MTOW increased 1,047kg and Max speed increased 50km/h compared with Ki-84.
Wing span:11.238m, Length:10.177m, Height:3.85m, Wing Area:22.30m, Empty Weight:3,540kg, MTOW:5,296kg, Range:1,577km, Armament:20mm cannon×4.It's engine was HA44(without turbo supercharger) same as Fugaku variant,HA44 was the mother engine of HA54 as you already knew. At the end stage of the war, there were many U.S. fighters in Japanese sky, they were P-51D from Iou Island(硫黄島), and F6F from U.S.Navy airplane carriers.
IJA hoped this fighter very much.

Thank you Airman and Blackite for confirming my guess about the Ki-117. As you can see from my avatar, I am big fan of the "Frank" fighter.

Thanks. You have a very good sense. It's one of the most beautiful fighter in WWⅡ.
U.S. surprised very much for it's high performance through post war test.

Hi Guys
I am looking for images of advances versions of Hayate, namely Ki-84-II Kai, III, IV, P, R, N (Ki-117) and Ki-116.
Please could you assist?
Cheers
Gerhard

It is the standard Ki-84 Ko (Ki-84a) s/n 2366, captured by the US forces in Japan after the war and shipped to USA, where it received Foreign Evaluation number FE-302.

LAW

Japanese wikipedia says that,
Ki-84-Ⅱ : Partial wooden structure, only planned.
Ki-84-Ⅲ : High altitude fighter with turbo charged engine, only planned.
Ki-84-Ⅳ : High altitude fighter with Ha45-44 engine, only planned.

"Ki-116's nose is little long?"

English Wikipedia says this about Ki-116: "The Ki-116 was essentially the last variant of the Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate to enter flight trials. It was originally the fourth Mansyu-built Ki-84-I, and adapted to take a 1,500 hp Mitsubishi Ha-112-II (aka Kinsei 62) engine, the same engine as used in the Kawasaki Ki-100, driving a three-blade popeller borrowed from a Mitsubishi Ki-46-III Dinah. This conversion proved to be very successful, and a reduction of 1,000 lb in empty weight being registered. The aircraft was still undergoing tests at the time of Japan's final defeat. The plane seemed to have been somewhat longer and had an increased tail surface area as compared to the original Ki-84."

Thanks windswords san. I remember that you are Hayate freak and specialist. ;)

Thans guys
It is very difficult to identify these advanced models form the basic Ki-84-I. One would think that the engine cowl would become more streamline similar to the N1K5 compared to N1K2-J.
Cheers

Hi Guys
Are their any pictures of the Ki-84P, Ki-84R and Ki-84N.s

Hi Airman

I am very curios. Have you had any feedback on this subject yet? I for one would love to see what these Ki-84 variants would have looked like.

Thanx Blackkite
Sill, I would love to see drawings of the III and IV versions. The II would have minor changes from the original, probably similar to Ki-106, right.

Ki-84 Tei(丁, the meaning is almost same as letter D) was a night fighter which had a 20 mm Schräge Musik at the rear of the cockpit. The first aircraft was completed in July 1944, but only two aircraft were manufactured.
Unfortunately I can't find any picture or drawing of this type.

Thats pretty good so far,

Is there any more history about why the Tei came about? If not, what is general history on when a night fighter is reuired? Thanks

Cherry

After July 1942, the necessity of the night fighter was caused to the base in Rabaul of the IJN, B-17 bomber came to venture the night bombing.

I have understood that Nakajima Ki-84 Tei had 4 cannon of 20 mm ( 2 in wings and 2 instead ho-103 gun of 12,7 mm in rear cockpit )

No all five cannons are 20mm Ho-5.
