The Ukraine war has seen both sides use the Soviet developed SAM systems to clear the skies of enemy aircraft.
To do so they have been fired out at a prodigious rate.
Because the West relied more on aircraft to control airspace it relied much less on ground based air defence systems.
A number of different Western systems have been sent to Ukraine. They have been effective but are nowhere as numerous as the Soviet legacy systems.
Can Western systems fill the gap?
