Kind of surprised there was already a thread about this, seems like there could be a loot of cool stories on the cluster that was this engines development.
From what I could find it seems most of the engines issues was simply a lack of resources, building jet engines is expensive and building one with zero experience is worse (gust ask china) but indea only put in $250 million when to project really needed at lest $2 billion. France also supposedly offered to partner with a $1 billion offer but were declined (probably because at that point it would gust be a m88 variant owned by France with indean support then a indea jet engine)
