Grover Loening's Flying aircraft carrier (1954)

There's no way this thing would have even gotten airborne, let alone launched aircraft at cruising speed. While I like it, we'll have to chalk it up to those wild fits of speculation that aircraft designers were prone to pre-computer age. If they could dream it, they'd put it to blueprints, whether it would work or not. Northrop came up with a number of flying wing airliners around this time that simply were pure flights of fancy.
