General Dynamics Fort Worth F-16 derived GAU-8 gunship concept (G.F.G) from 1976

I built a few of the GFG “Whatyoumightcoulddo” concepts over the years.

Ideas like the F-16 gunship are worth exploring as some wild and crazy ideas inspire other ideas that bear deeper and closer examination.

Anyone who thinks far out conceptual design is a waste of time and money really has another think coming.

Hasn't proved to be an issue with the A10.
The A-10's gun is lower and the cockpit is more forward. The muzzle blast (eventually) flows backwards from a position downwards of the cockpit and streams into the airflow above the wings and into the engines. It's hell on the engines.

This is my personal interpretation of such an odd proposal.
Anyway, once realistically rendered this beast has a sorta of its own twisted charm....

Enjoy it!
Giuseppe

Hello Giuseppe, you are most likely the one single person on this planet who has put the most thought into this concept ever since and including its inception.

Martin, you're too kind.....

My cross section was only to provide evidence that, only by dimensional point of view, it was possible to insert a GAU-8 inside such configuration.
Prove to flight it would be a completely different case.

Sir, you are a vital pillar of this community, and I salute you for it.

I subscribed to this forum because of this thread. I am curious to know the origin of this design. There were 3 variations, so, some thought was given to this, even if it was to entertain visitors to a museum.
