General Dynamics and Vought Navalised F-16s to VFAX/NACF requirement

Several interesting things about this image.
1. Model 18 on the vertical does anyone know if this was a General Dynamics designation?
2. The twin AIM-9 mounting on the wing tips.
3. The AIM-9 mounted on the side of the intake. I don't recall seeing this in any of the drawings.

VAHF image.

So - to be clear - Model 18 was a Convair (San Diego) led General Dynamics F-16 derivative for VFAX. It therefore has no direct relation to the V-1600/1601/1602 which were later in time and Vought led. No drawings of Model 18 have surfaced to my knowledge.
The model I had came from the Vought Dallas facility....... It was obtained from an good friend that had it in his collection and came to me after his passing. Don't see any San Diego connection.

According to known sources the Model 18 was proposed to VFAX by General Dynamics prior to the Vought and General Dynamics teaming on NACF.

The Model number fits with San Diego number scheme not Fort Worth. I have no other specific evidence it being San Diego.

I don't think it precludes this Model ending up at Vought.

This is amazing! May i ask where the scans came from?
I used to go down to the Vought Archives in Grand Prairie, TX and spend a week at a time there - did that for something like 12 years.. Managed by the retirees, it was a great place to be and really wonderful people to be around. Many are gone now, sure miss the good ol' days being down there with them. The collection is now at the University of Texas - Dallas (UTD).

Enjoy the Day! Mark.
