This was not a Krell. This was a manifestation ("monsters of the id") created by Morbius' "boosted brain" and id, instantiated and empowered by the Krell technology.

Yes, it was a creation of Morbius' mind, and if you look closely, it has a resemblance to Morbius. The film only hints at what the Krell's structure from the shape of the doorways.

The original film was based on the legend of the Nibelungs, they were dark dwarves who lived deep in the earth and were dedicated to the extraction of precious metals, particularly gold.

It's scary to think about what political correctness will have done with that material this time.

It may be just me, but I didn't find the artwork of possible Krell all that convincing.

It will be curious to see if the "remake" will be indeed a remake of the original with added narrative filigrees or goes off in a totally different direction. I would bet they can't resist somehow showing us the Krell (CGI, of course, as will be Robby and the Altair 4 planet interior machine). Probably recruit the currently ubiquitous Glen Powell for the C57D commander for the new film. Patrick Stewart as Morbius (closes the loop, since Star Trek borrowed elements from the original movie).
