F-15 Silent Eagle

I'm astonished the South Koreans are so naive about this issue.

Having transfer-of-technology means nothing in terms of permitting export sales. The US State Department retains veto rights over export; just ask Volvo Flygmotor ( RM8 and RM12 ) or even P&W Canada ( CT7 made entirely in Canada but uses US-licensed IP: vetoed sale to Spain for onward sale to Venezuela ).

I can't imagine why any country wouldn't want to retain those veto rights. Would Europe really let somebody have all the technology of the CAESAR radar and then let them sell it to whoever they wanted? I don't think so.

New orders from whom? Boeing pitched the F-15 Silent Eagle, also known as the F-15 Advanced, to Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and South Korea. Israel was originally refused by the Obama Administration in 2010. Saudi Arabia passed in favor of what became the F-15SA (Saudi Advanced).

As far as I know, at least at this point in time:

F-15 Advanced = F-15SA
Silent Eagle = F-15 Advanced + RCS reduction

The reality is that Boeing is selling options. Somewhat like buying a car. "F-15 Advanced" is a set of options or a trim package - if you order that, you get that set of options at a reduced price. In some cases there may be upgrades for individual options. The "Silent Eagle" is a set of RCS reduction options that can come with the F-15 Advanced package.

The F-15SA deliveries were delayed because of the new FBW flight controls. The F-15 had to be flown through it's full envelope to certify them, and that takes time and resources. You may wonder what else was tested during this period.

But where is the important stuff, can it out BFM a f-16 in a guns dogfight? {/sarc}

and internal carry less than a f-35a

It seems like Silent Eagle work progressed beyond what has been advertised. Has it reached a point where it is too sensitive for Saudi possession?

Unknown at this time. It depends whether Israel receives exclusive access, among Middle Eastern nations, to the F-15 Silent Eagle as part of the "compensation package."

Which conceivably means that the USG will be paying royalties to the Saudis for each F-15SE it buys for Israel.

"Silent Eagle" has a range of options associated with it. Boeing is confident that they can come up with an exportable configuration for a given customer. Unlike some other programs that are being offered for export, the "Silent Eagle" technologies have been coordinated with LOEXCOM.

Does anyone else remember seeing drawings of an F-15 with a wing that was more edge-aligned and profiled like a Raptor's? I'm kind of surprised that the Silent Eagle wasn't presented that way.

The F-15 MANX?

No, but similar idea. I could swear it was a 3-view but it's been a while and might have been a kitbash.

Try these.

Why does the one image say an F-15 with an F-18 wing when it isn't an F-18 wing? Or did it just use the main wing box from it?

It's kinda similar to the F-18 if you squint at it (minus the LERX)--straight leading edge and trailing edge with a clipped tip.

That wing shape is much closer to that of the agile Falcon, high AR clipped delta, than the trapezoidal wing the F-18 has, which has a lower AR and a swept forward trailing edge. I realize now that it's just something someone named the image and not at all related to the F-18's wing.

I wander how accurate are the slides with the weapons options. The original Boings presentation shows you can fit 4x500lb JDAMs.
These Chinese ones show only 2x500lb JDAMs but they do show 2x1000lb as an option too.

Can anyone confirm if Silent Eagle can carry F-22 main bay strike payload ( 2x Amraams, 2x 1000lb JDAMs) internaly too?

1) That's Korean not Chinese.

2) I suspect they decided that JDAMs would not separate cleanly from the upper portion of the CFT bays so that's for AAMs only.

FYI S-300 sale was not actually limited by sanctions. The decision to break the original contract was purely political from the Russian side.

Now that we know there is a relationship between Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg and President of the United States Donald Trump, it will be interesting to see if the United States Air Force will order the F-15 Silent Eagle or upgrade the F-15C fleet to F-15 Advanced.

Recent story they can't accelerate F-35A production for years why not buy a couple hundred advanced F-15s? Sure prefer 6th Generation but that's 2030 at least.

So far these

I'm tired of off-topic and necroposting. This is F-15SE thread.

Gosh darn, just like *any* tandem human seaters in this day and age, it's just another truly ugly (and most likely aerodynamically inferior) plane. I would *really* hope and expect for any and all current two seaters to be upgrated in the not too distant future with an AI *R2D2 equivalent* bucket upgrade in the back to competently take on any missions without risking two human lives instead of one.

The idea of carrying Mk82 500-lb bombs inside the F-15's conformal fuel tanks appeared in 1986.

Below is from the AGARD Short Course on "Fundamentals of Fighter Aircraft Design", presented at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics on February 17-21 1986.
