I had an incomplete odd-ball scale old B-58 kit and a cheapo 1/72 F-105G just laying around. For kicks and grins I started mockuping up the B-58's wings on the F-105 and low and behold, they fit very well together. And so, the F-105W "ThunderStoat" was born!

STARMs were 3D modeled in SolidWorks by me and resin printed. On 4 of them I added a booster, hypothesizing that since this weapon was based on the SM family, it could conceivably be equipped with a booster.

I envision this aircraft as a special mod to the last F-105Fs and F-105Gs going into the LINEBACKER campaigns to function as an ultra Wild Weasel. The large delta wing giving greatly enhanced internal fuel capacity with much lower wing loading for higher altitudes and longer loiters. With the weapon bay freed of fuel, an enhanced EWar package could be installed. With the generous additional wing area it would make sense to carry a much heavier SEAD load. With boosted STARMs from higher altitude, a Thunderstoat could conceivably carry out SAM suppression across Hanoi while lingering around the coast. Fun thought to think of this beast lurking around at night blasting SA-2s while the B-52 stream into Hanoi!

"YGBSM!"

Enjoy!

Now we need full line drawings etc. ;)

I need one to fit with my J35 Draken and F-16XL plans for Australia (the RAAF buys Draken instead of Mirage III, buys A-5 Vigilantes instead of F-111s, and picks up the Delta-105 for Vietnam use.

The A-5s & F-105Deltas are replaced in 1976 with an order of F-111Fs (with the FB-111 wing*) at the end of F-111F production run (call it the FB-111F) along with a few EF-111Fs for the escort jammer role and RF-111Fs for combat recon, then the Draken is replaced with the F-16XL in the 1980s.

Thinking strongly about a delta-winged FB-22 to replace the F-111Fs in the early 2000s.

* Or a fixed double-delta wing... ;) ;)
