That was the XA-43 (Model CW-29).

I found it most interesting that Model 92 was reassigned to the proposed XA-43 aircraft; formerly XSB2C-2 Helldiver - that Model CW-29 was a proposed four-engine all-weather pursuit - that CW-29A is the XF-87 - that CW-29 had nothing to do whatsoever with the XA-43. Thanks so much AIM9XRAY. -SP

Apparently the XA-43 was Design #92 before it was called the CW-29. That is because it was originally meant to be built at Buffalo. When the design was transfered to Saint-Louis, the type received a CW- designation like all the Saint-Louis types before it (except for the Robin). It is possible that the same thing happened to the XP-87, which is said to have briefly been known as Design #100 before being known as the CW-29A.

Good Day All -

Came across an EPay offering that included a general arrangement drawing of the XP-87. I "won" it and the drawing arrived yesterday - quite pleased with drawing and the scan. Here's a slightly reduced size copy of the blueprint. Anyone who wants to extract the line drawing out of the blueprint, message me your e-mail and I'll send the full size scan for you to work with. Rather Looney Tunes busy at work and home at the moment so farming it out is the only way it'll get done.

Yes, still need to scan the XP-87 photos I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. Will get to those shortly.

Because Curtiss (Wright) was going the way of dinosaurs. Basically every single product past P-36 / P-40 was a piece of junk. See the P-60 maddening story and also their Navy torpedo bombers. Curtiss and Vultee only produced garbage. They were the black sheeps of the USA WWII industrial prowess.
