Creating your own scale drawings: How to and best tools

How does Affinity Design compare with Illustrator?

Chris
Very favourably, I would say there are 90% of the features, but its the 90% you actually use!

Main advantage, apart from the cost), is its a clean sheet application that doesn't have decades of features added and bolted on, its genuinely a nicer place to work!

In my day job as a design educator, Affinitys attitude is a million miles from certain other companies, emails get answered quickly and they are open to feedback on features and workflow, the other lot just tell me to log into the support forums and hope for the best, which is not what you expect for a significant 5 figure subscription every year. Just wish we could dump them and move over entirely but the industry has an expectation, although we are starting to see a shift.

As a designer, well I had been using Adobe apps for over 30 years and I've pretty much made the switch totally now with no issues.

Heh - timely - Affinity products are 50% off right now :)

'Get Version 2 of Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher on all operating systems, including iPad, for one low bundle price'

I bought it too, dumping Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign after... 20 years.
I was always lucky to find an employer to buy it for me, so it didn't cost me much ( A lot of magazines and some training in the early days).
But Adobe telling everyone that everything they upload to their servers is used for training their (sub-par) AI is a bridge too far for me. Screwing over the little guys once again...

Affinity Suite is 50% off again (Black Friday)

$82.99 USD for the entire suite on all platforms (Windows, MacOS, iPad)

As a private individual you can install Affinity apps on as many devices as you own which run the operating system you have purchased a licence for (of course in the case of a Universal Licence that means you can install on any iPads, Macs or Windows PCs you own). Other people (for example, members of your household) are also allowed to use the apps on those devices. However, only you are allowed to use the apps for commercial use—if any members of your household need to make commercial use of the apps as well they will need to purchase their own licence.

Hello everyone
I started vector drawing in my work with a great software which was iGraphx Designer by Micrografx in 1985 on Windows 3.1 (!!!), until the final version 9. After working on technical plans of buildings, spare parts to be machined or posters and training documents.
Since 20 years in retirement, I have made more than 2500 drawings of civil and military boats, aircrafts, trains and fire trucks or vehicles. For example, I drew the 3 USS Enterprise aircraft carriers with (almost!) all their planes, in profile and top view in 2D, but also sectional views of submarines, seaplanes and a "Mistral" class entirely in section.
One of the last ones is a what if? of aerial and naval drone carriers to see below with Designer and a PBY on Inkscape
For 3 or 4 years, I sometimes use Inkscape which is not as user-friendly and easy to use, I find the rendering of Designer prettier!
But it takes a long time to draw !! ;)

I had talked about the USS Enterprise aircraft carriers of the 3 periods, here they are with their planes, not in full for the CVAN 1962, I had too much work in progress !
Imagine the time passed, the insignias are however not my work...

Amazing dedication to a craft! I had no idea iGraphx Designer had that kind of longevity or versatility, but definitely think they produce more aesthetically pleasing visuals. The fact that you've done full sectional views of things like subs and the Mistral class is wild and impressive!!
