To me it looks closer to the Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle - which was awarded passenger certification in 1959 after having done flying sales tours throughout Europe, North Africa, and both South & North America in 1956/57.
Development had started in 1952, with first flight in 1955, and 282 built by end of production in 1972.
So it is quite possible that the horizontal stabilizer position shown in the 1963 Convair 1010 booklet may well have been influenced by the Caravelle.
I expect that Convair dropped the Model 61/1010 projects because there were too many competitors already in the market...
1. Caravelle.
2. The DH 121 (HS 121 Trident) was formally announced in February 1958, with first flight in January 1962.
3. The B727 was announced in December 1960, with first flight in February 1963.
4. The BAC 1-11 was announced in May 1961, with first flight in August 1963.
5. The Fokker F28 Fellowship was announced in April 1962, with first flight in May 1967.
6. Douglas had been working with Sud in 1960-62 to try to sell the Caravelle in the US, but Douglas dropped that and announced the development of the DC-9 in April 1963, with first flight in February 1965.
