Way to go Jozef. Gives me the shivers.

Agreed. That's this week's desktop wallpaper sorted.

Jozef; do you still have the Hawker P1134 images from a year or so back? I had them, but lost them on a corrupted CD.

hello, I'm new in the forum,
I'm searching documents about the kingfish, please PlanesPictures can you post some plan vue of your 3d model of the kingfish - top, side, botom, face, and undercariage detail.
I'll try to scratchbuild one in 1/72

New Mexico or Arizona?

Arizona or California. The Saguaro Cacti in the picture only grow in the Sonoran Desert. New Mexico's cacti are predominantly the cholla & pricky pear varieties.

Great job Jozef!!
I've also appreciated your drawings & renderings on "Luft-46" site. :)

More on this, and nice words about Josef's work on this site at:

Actually the rest of the post is also taken from here, in particular flateric's post:

OK, all we know that original source is CIA book and papers)

What is pyroceram exactly? Also was the Kingfish's skin also a heat-shield, or was the plane a conventional design like the Blackbird using the fuel as a heat-sink?

Convair was proposing FISH as their main proposal. Once they were told to change to something
more like Lockheed's they proposed KINGFISH, but didn't have the time to really get it to the
point they wanted. So KINGFISH would have been a M3+ design like Lockheed's, using J58's,
titanium probably, etc, instead of the D-21 like FISH.

Yes it's fun to think of other launch vehicles than the B-58 and other acceleration assist mechanisms.
like the D-21B employed. In fact I think FISH could have probably been more easily workable with
a B-52 launcher, and more stealthy due to its size. But the B-58 was just cool!

KINGFFISH was a design more like Lockheed's. Convair had to basically change their
design from FISH.

Pyroceram is indeed a ceramic material, radar transparent. Nose cone on Tartar & maybe Terrier missiles were made from it. I know Tartar for sure but I don't remember for Terrier since it was a beam rider, not a radar homer.

You probably don't know but some prototypes of Convair Kingfish were build. Some photos are on http://flickr.com/photos/11923090@N03/2320636085/

WTF? Why are you claiming your artwork is evidence of prototypes having been built? There were NONE built.

the rest U-2, SR-71 and M-21 / D-21 Drone...

but thanks for Flickr link for U-2 and B-58 Picture

When you say radar transparent, does that mean it produces no radar cross-section? Or the radar beam simply sees through the pyro-ceram to the structure below it?

I have in my papers "somewhere" how these are made, for a radome for a similar missile nose cone. Maybe not the exact same pyroceram material, but pretty simiilar if it's not this one.
I will have a look.
