Even more mutated mid-wing Sonic Cruiser from 2004

Interesting. The idea of a rotatable inlet to mitigate FOD risk is a bit weird to link to a plane like the Sonic Cruiser. FOD surely isn't a major concern at the sort of major airports a plane like that would operate from.

Some perspective on the Sonic Cruiser
He starts off by saying Turkish Air 1951 was caused by MCAS, Turkish Air 1951 was a 737-800, ie a 737 NG, and the NGs don't have MCAS, they don't need it, only the Maxes do.

His logic is also a bit shaky: Sonic Cruiser wasn't a real project, but they were briefing it to the airlines. It was specifically the airline reaction to the briefings - Uh, no thanks, our customers won't pay more to get there faster, can we have something conventional that goes the same speed as everything else? - that convinced Boeing to go back to the drawing board.

So treat with caution.

IMOHO, People will pay more. They do already, indeed, with all paying services (think seating space, drinks, meals...). Tomorrow it will be toilet paper and nobody want to stay seating long with the savy.

So there is a bright open future for affordable speed.
