"transparency" That fake word? Tell people the truth - is that so hard? Not, buried in the fine print: "Once we get your money it becomes our money." Or, if we go bankrupt you get nothing.

From today's New York Times.

"Top FTX Executive Says Sam Bankman-Fried Used Customer Money for ‘Excess’ Spending

"Nishad Singh, testifying at Mr. Bankman-Fried’s fraud trial, said FTX customer deposits were used to buy luxury real estate and to pay athletes like Tom Brady and Steph Curry for endorsement deals."

SBF's defence case begins...

Bankman-Fried was expected to testify in his own defense after his lawyers called two other witnesses, his lawyer Christian Everdell said in court outside the jury's presence. The first two defense witnesses called were Krystal Rolle, Bankman-Fried's lawyer in the Bahamas, and database expert Joseph Pimbley.

There is a sucker born every minute.... But damn never seen so many suckers being plucked all at once...
Stupid morals and ethics why do you stop me from making buckets olympics pools of money...
Sigh....

Morals and ethics are what's stopping the United States from descending into total 1800s style Wild West.

"Hey mister. I didn't like the way you looked at me."

Oh yeah?

"Yeah!" Blam, blam, blam...

The "wild west" as a whole had a lower murder rate than Hollywood suggests. So whenever you hear some politician bleating on about how concealed carry laws or some such will make their city "like the old west," then what they're really saying is that the place will become safer. (note: this is borne out by the fact that CCW license holders have substantially lower murder rates than the general population)

Why do people own assault rifles? Only the military should have these.

Why do people own assault rifles?
Because they want to. No more reason is needed.

Only the military should have these.
It's because the military has them that civilians should have access to them. That's the whole point: the militia (all able-bodied males 18-45 by Federal law; if challenged, it'd doubtless get aged up *and* made multisex) is meant as a check on the government. The government seizing Americans "assault weapons" in Concord, MA, is what kicked off the Revolution. A lesson that all those who would try again should keep in mind.

Oh boy. You and your buddies are surrounded in your house located somewhere in rural America. You have an underground bunker with enough water and rations to last for months. Your friends are deployed in concealed positions as the FBI closes in. Your group is accused of being domestic terrorists. All of you disagree. Of course, the FBI not only has assault rifles but tear gas and knockout gas. They are backed up by the local police. So no reinforcements are coming. Suddenly, your cell phones and computers stop working. FBI snipers using nightvision spot your buddies outside. A voice over a loudspeaker announces the presence of the FBI. They have arrest warrants for everyone. A drone with nightvision is hovering overhead but it's dark and hard to spot. You are all asked to surrender peacefully. That any gunfire will be met with overwhelming force.

The situation you describe was recently practiced. The citizens basically won, because reinforcements *did* show up. Despite the brainless claims of totalitarian bootlickers, an armed populace can (and should) successfully stand up to an over-reaching government.

Hell, look at Jan 6, 2020: The hysterical fantacists claim that a bunch of people milling about posed a legitimate threat of toppling the government. Imagine if those people had actually been armed, and actually bent on toppling the government. The MAGA Star Empire would by now be planting flags on Pluto, Charon and Ultima Thule.
