Bascially they are saying that they can do what the Germans did in the Phase 2 programme, ie buy Australian made vehicles for home country's army. It's worked once so why not twice?Link doesn't work...
Though we should consider it's in AUD, not USD. A middle value, $6 billion Australian would be $4 billion US. Still a hefty amount, but afaik Australian procurement states its programme costs including long term life cycle costs so that figure would probably be a lot lower when calculated in conventional arms deal programme cost methodology.Wow, "The Land 400 Phase 3 project will have a value of between $5 billion and $7 billion..."
That's a stupendous amount of money for 129 IFV's!!
